Anybody know why Lexus decided to start eShift in 2nd gear (vs 1st)?
Does the vehicle actually start in second gear? OR Does eShift just take over in 2nd gear, but actually starts in 1st gear?
This is of obvious concern when I want the best launch result (ie: racing or at the track).
Thanks for your feedback.

This has been discussed in other threads...try to search and you will find more info.
In general, the gear ratio is too low to start in 1st...you would redline immediately...with e-shift it actually automatically shifts from 1st into 2nd, which can take you to about 60MPH.
For best launches...let the car do it for you automatically...you won't be able to shift as good as the computer can...also disable VSC and put it in Power Mode.
...again, there are lots of threads on this topic/area and people generally get tired of answering the same questions over and over and over again...especially when there is a history of those conversations and all you need to do is search for them...

When you say:
"For best launches...let the car do it for you automatically"
Do you mean keep it in automatic mode (vs using eShift mode)?
OR
Do you mean use eShift, but let the revs hit the limiter and let the system shift itself?
I've read a few other previous threads, but didn't quite see the answers I needed.
Thanks!

GSpeed,
In eShift M2 mode, only 1-2 shift is done automatically for you. After that you will be bouncing off the rev limiter until you press the Up button.

If you want to downshift manually into first, it can ONLY be done with the lever....through that idiotic ziz-zag shift pattern. The lever, however, will only go up to third gear...not fourth.
The E-Shift (in manual) in the "2" position will start in first and go automatically to second and, as the earlier poster mentioned, then bounce off the rev limiter. You have to upshift manually from there. Starting out from a dead stop in "3" it will go up 1-2-3, etc......and then stop. Same for "4".
Also, one other quirk.....You cannot downshift from D to 4 with the lever...it is impossible. The lever goes from D-M-3. You HAVE to slide the lever left from 5 to M and then hit the down-E-shift button on the wheel to get 4. There is no other way.

Not that it automatically will shift for you, but...I meant do not even use the e-shift at all...you will not be able to outshift the computer. Sure it's fun, but unfortunately we are not programmed to know the best shift point for each gear.
E-shift is best used in turns where you have the ability to down-shift...
