gs400 vs 430
I'd like to know if there are any changes in the gs430 vs the gs400 when it comes to perfomance / hp / torque etc. so far it seems they're identical but if that's the case why the change in the engine and upping it 0.3 litres ?

The 4.3 V8 was developed several years ago primarily for the luxury LS430, in response to complaints that its rival Infiniti Q45 had more power, and the 4.3 was gradually integrated across the Lexus lineup...including the GS and SC. We're seeing the same thing now with the 3.0 V6 to the 3.3L V6 in the ES330 and the RX330. Unfortunately, it looks like they're also going to dump the nice 3.0 in-line 6 in the IS300 for this new 3.3L V6 as well.....that's why I'm hanging onto mine.

ulev
no e shift
more tq, same hp (well, at least they state that)
different throttle response (gs430 is slow, some say it's driven by wire whereas the gs400 is driven by cable, no idea what is correct. but the gs400 response is definitely a lot faster)
gs430 has a whole new brake system setup, more powerful

no, i am talking about the throttle response, the time from you floor the pedal to the time that the car realizes that it has to go. the GS430, SC430, and the pre 04 LS430 were all horrible. we can all only blame it on the ecu i guess. the new LS430 is super fast in response time though. and nop, the new LS430 with the 6 speed tranny? it does 0-60 in 5.9
i test drove the GS430 and the SC430 for quite some time, and it really took me a while to adjust my driving. after that i got back into my gs4 and i was like and idiot at every stop light coz' it looks like i am gunning every time...

rominl is right, there is a delay when stepping on the gas on D, but when you manually shift it into 2 or 3, the response is alot better, i believe the purpose of that is when you are on D, it was meant to be driven normally and also to be fuel efficient, so every time you tap the pedal, you're not sucking the gas, imo

nah....rominl just got a lead foot.
yup, to feel the power on low end, one must gate shift to 2 and 3 in the GS430 (just got to remember to up shift........)

new 3.3 is for FWD setup
either way, 2JZ cast iron block is a very sweet engine and lots of potentials in it

Now the transmision and final-drive unit.....that's another matter, of course. Sometimes you get into some real work there.
