Size- The A4 is smaller, no idea about weight
Drive Wheels and Motor- These cars will have a very different feel - FWD I-4 Turbo vs RWD I-6
Transmission- I think the A4 auto is a CVT.
My cousin took his manual A4 in for service and got an an automatic A4 as a loaner. He said it was VERY slow.
If performance is what you want, you may want to consider something other than this particular A4. However, you may want to check with http://audiforums.com/

I sold my modified 2000 a4 to get my 98 gs400. If it were me I'd get the audi only if it was quattro sport manual 1.8t.. Then you could x-chip, exhaust, short shifter, bpv upgrades and have a quick, great handling car. Otherwise, I'd get the 300 and start planning for a turbo/coilover future.
My experience with Audi (Laurel Audi of Westmont specifically) was very good. The fit and finish of my quattro turbo a4, although not 2nd gen gs, is also very good. Stock audi a4's, especially auto's, are unbearable dogs. The 1.8t can come alive when modded and if you drive on wet/snowy/icy roads the awd is sweet.

Lexus Test Driver
If reliability is anywhere near the top of the list on your next car then Lexus is the winner. Page 17 of April Consumer Reports shows Lexus is ranked #1 for new vehicles, #2 for 3-year-old and 5-year-old vehicles in reliabilty. Audi is ranked below average in all above categories. Audi 1.8 with A/T is no WRX STi, I would pick the Lexus GS3.

They love the GS....the Audi doesn't quite make them squirm the same way the GS does.

The discussion above gives me an excuse to ask this-
Bluelex: How the hell do you get your paint to look so damn shiny? Do you have a secret you can share with us fellow blue Lexus owners? My silver LS would look like new after a quick run though the car wash and dry off, the blue color is a lot harder to get looking as good. I've only had my car for 3 weeks and have washed it twice with not the greatest results, is there anything I should know before wash #3 this weekend?
