Good afternoon,

Well, I had a 1993 Mercedes Benz 300 2 door coupe for many yrs. I have a couple of young kids and, more importantly, my transmission was on it's last leg. For fear of the possibilities of what was coming, I went to the local CarMAx, gave them my Benz, and picked up a 1998 Lexus GS400. All I can say is, what a beast. To think they were selling 2001 Maximas' at the same, if not more money, is a joke, although my car was on the lot less than 12 hrs. Guess I got lucky.

While I haven't read the posts, I am figuring that the car is a Lexus, so I won't have nearly the German maintenance that I did with my Benz, I ahope to learn a lot over the next few days.

If anyone cares to give me a few hints to look for, I'd be much appreciative.

Be Good
Bob

Congrats Bob. I felt the same way when I picked up my 98 GS400. Definately the best car I could have bought for under $20,000.

Of course I was also eyeing a used Subaru WRX, but my wife said it was time to grow up... if she only knew what she has gotten me into...

There is a sensor that sniffs the outside air when you have your AC circulation set to 'auto'. When it 'smells' too much stuff in the air its bringing in from outside, it switches from outside air to recirculated air. WHen its clean again, it switches back.

Changing the sensitivity just changes how much stuff in the air makes it switch to recirculate.

Thanks everyone.....I really won't be doing that many mods to the car, as 1) my wife is back in school for Nursing, 2) two kids under 5 and 3) not too much into the bling, but I definately like the tasteful minor changes (same thing as on my Benz).

The rims are original, the sport model with the 235/45/17 brand new Potenza tires. Car has almost 85,000 miles, but appears to be in fantastic shape (I also bought CarMax's 3 yr/36000 mile warranty, just in case).

Welcome to the Club...

We'll be sure to influence you in a postive way....now....how much money do you have available right now...and would your wife notice if there were a few thousands missing that you spent on secret mods?

BTW, as for the tricks, went out to the car and checked the a/c filter, brand spanking new. Gotta give it to CarMax.
