Has anyone out there switched from 17" rims to 16" rims for purposes of ride quality? I currently have the stock 17" rims and am thinking of picking up a set of 16" rims (mainly for the winter months, but also because it could increase ride quality). Thoughts?

Hello,
I can definitely tell you that the 16 inch set-up rides better in my opinion. People in this forum love anything from stock to 20 inch wheels. It is all a matter of preference. I had a GS4 with 17 inch wheels a few years back, and I found the ride harsh, and the stock Bridgestone RE-030 tires left a lot to be desired, both in wet weather pereformance, AND tire life.
So many people have beautiful cars with bigger wheels and tires worth thousands of dollars. I have to be practical because I drive a lot. 15,000 mile or less tire life is not acceptable for me. I believe that those tires give a ride rougher than I like for everyday..
I would say get a set of each, and when you want to look really good, go with 17's and higher sized wheels, and when you want comfort and tire life, use the 16's....
Just my opinion! I am sure there are opposing views. That is what makes this forum so great..

16" rims are definitely more comfy with the bigger sidewall. You will lose some of the handling capability you get with the 17's however (at least that is what I felt I gained with the 17's may have also been better tires on them).

I have OEM 16" chromes. I would gladly trade you for your 17s. To tell you the truth, I'm pretty satisfied with the 16s when driving normally (daily commute or errands), but I want something more response & aggressive when I really feel like driving (but the thought of increase of insurance premium controls that urge
)
If you want to sell your 17s, please let me know. I'm thinking about going 18s, but the roads here aren't the best around, and I can't afford to buy new tires since I'm sure I'll have bubbles on them if I go 18s. I probably can't afford to get the 18s fixed when they get screwed up from the rough roads.
