Navigation components
#1
I found a crashed 98 GS400 with navigation in a local salvage yard. I am wondering if I can use the navigation from the GS400 and transplant it into a 98 GS300.
What components will I need to take out from the crashed GS400 to successfully make the navigation work?
Thank you.

You'd need to take the whole center dash, the nav hard disk in the trunk, and all the connecting wiring. You'd also need to connect a separate nav antenna, like the inexpensive Clarion one someone posted about. That's my guess anyway.

Don't forget that the stock Nav also integrates the audio and climate controls. I'm not sure if there's any difference in these systems to accept the touch screen control.
IMO, it will still cost a lot of money to integrate everything. You're better off with an aftermarket Nav system, though it would not look OEM.

I asked my dealers about this a few years back and I was told the whole setup would cost $12K I think it was like $7000 for labor and $5000 for the JPS itself so IMO its not worth it

Yeah, I asked that too, and the lexus guy told me it would be around $10,000. Best bet, I am purchasing the Alpine NVE-N851A dvd nav, I heard some fantastic reviews for that. Its around $1000-$1300 without the screen. Pretty good to me.
