Cost to refinish door
Well, I just got back from a car wash at the local Lexus dealership only to find a nice deep scratch in the driver's side door (that'll teach me for not washing it myself). I'm sure it wasn't there before the wash (because my car wasn't all that dirty), but it's definitely there now. It's about 4 inches long, smack dab in the middle of the door, and it's the kind of scratch that catches your fingernail as you go by (in other words, it's fairly deep). Two questions. Should I bother trying to touch it up with a tooth pick and a bottle of touch up paint (which I already have), or have the door refinished. If the latter, about how much would that cost? I wouldn't think it would cost that much because the driver's side door is half plastic molding and half metal, so it's raelly just a very small area that needs to be painted. Any thoughts?

It will cost you around $300 to fix the door. I'd say paint the whole door and send the bill to your Lexus dealer. Tht's exactly what happened to my Bimmer and the dealer picked up the bill

Damn that sux dude. Kinda the same thing just happened to me. I went to the mall in my GS instead of my daily beater. So I parked 10 spots down from everybody else so none could hit me. I came out 2 hours later and BAM! my passenger door has a small dent and a scratch 2 feet long and 8 inches thick . I maneged to buff most of it out. so now I need to get my door repainted too. I fugure my deductable is $500 so I guess its coming out my pocket. Ill just have to get some other things down to it while its in the body shop

Wow. That's much worse than what happened to me. Doesn't that just figure? I do the same thing. Park at the end of the lot so no one will bother me. If anything, it ends up drawing more attention to you. About a month ago, I was at a mall parked in the back away from everyone. Someone came by and put a big wad of gum on my rear window. Sometimes I wonder if you're better off parking with the masses.

I just had someone back in to my car while I was eating. It was in between a ding and a big hit. They fixed the damage and had to blend through the quarter panel.
I also had the rubber strips replaced below the doors on both sides and the bumper repainted.
Total cost $1150. And yes it was worth it.
BTW, the bumper cost around 350 bucks to repaint.

Well, I had the quarter panel and the driver's door repainted. If we back out the rubber strips and bumper the cost would have been ~700 bucks.
Remember, I had body damage as well. I would guess the actual paint job for the quarter panel and door would have been a maximum of 500 bucks. So I think both of our quotes are close to equal.
