I believe this has been discussed but I can not find the thread?
My 1998 GS radio display (pioneer OEM non-nav) is not displaying properly on the passenger side. It shows odd symbols where the channel should be and changes frequently. Is there an easy fix for this or does my whole unit need replaced. Previously it would return to normal in a day or two but now it has stayed like this for two weeks.
I will try to get a picture here in a minute.

It looks like your LCD in the stereo display is about to become defective, although it seems to be still functioning for now. You may want to consider bringing the unit to a reputable car audio/video electronics specialist for repair, or if that's not possible, replacing the entire unit for hundreds of $$$ ![Frown](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
If you want to think DIY, there's an article here that covers a how-to on fixing a blacked-out LCD screen in a 1st-gen LS. Different car, but pretty much the same idea.

You will need to replace the LCD display on the radio. I had the same problem, I bought a replacement radio on eBay and it had the same problem. It is a very common problem on those Pioneer radios.
I ended up finding a radio shop that fixed the radio. They replaced the LCD with a new one which I was told that was far superior to the original one, plus they warranty the repair... I actually got both radios fixed. I'll sell it if I can recoup what I have into it ( $200 for the repair plus $100 for the radio).
The new LCD displays nice, crisp, dark numbers. The one I installed works beautifully. By the way, the Lexus dealer wanted $700 for a Refurbished unit and $1800 for a new one. Either way do not buy a used one...if it is not bad it will go bad.... Take care, Paul

Wow quite expensive. My car is due for many things right now, none of the key remotes work, the tires, brakes and shocks are due/need replacing. maybe the 2003 GX for 44K is a good deal?

I had the same problem on my wifes 99 Gs with the Pioneer head unit but I found a cheaper way out. you can actually buy the display it self and then take it to a reputable repair shop to have it install or install it yourself, This is the website that i bought the part from http://www.pacparts.com/ I will try to locate the part number for the lcd display for you but also they carry a lot of other parts for other radios. I think the part with shipping cost me about $58

I've got exactly the same problem on my 98 GS so if you could find that part number I'd really appreciate that too. What repair shop did you use to install the part? Can you reccomend them?
Thanks a lot!

A friend of mine recently ordered from:
http://www.pacparts.com
located in Gardena Calif
1-800-421-5080
part price $122.49 + tax
shipping $9.75
He wasn't 100% on the PN but he said it might be CWM4931.
Hopefully pacparts can help with figuring it out if you call them.
If anyone does order and can confirm, please post here to verify the PN to order.

If you want to just replace the entire unit itself, try the classifieds section... You might find something cheap there..... but I think you should go aftermarket.
