Should I purchase 98 gs300 with 98k miles for 15k. I am putting down 4k, so my payments should be really low. I drove the car and it seems flawless, but the mileage is scaring me. I have a 90 ls400 with 140k on it and never had any problems with tthe engine. So I know the lex engines will run forever if maintained right, which I do. Being that its the 6 cycl and not the 8 will the engine survive another 60k. I am suppose to go purchase this car today, so I need advice.
I ran a carfax report on the car it only had 1 owner. I really like the car, but should I save up more money to get one with less miles. Also I don't have the deep pockets like many of you members here, but I love lexus automobile's. So help me out.

15k for a 98 1 owner is a steal .. providing car fax checks out , as well as visual inspection shows no signs of damage and car was properly seviced.. make sure within the last 40k miles there was a tranny and coolant flush done by the dealer.. the eng is the famous 2jzgt and they are bullet proof so no worries there
i say go for it and save the dough for MODS

I wouldn't call it "a steal" but it's not a bad deal if the car is in good shape. There are usually some to be found on eBay and Cars.com in that price range. There was a 98 GS400 that went for $14,750 with similar mileage.
Be sure to check for wreck damage. The easiest way to do this is to run your finger along the body seams (where the hood meets the fenders etc)-it should feel nice and smooth. If it feels rough anywhere that's a sign that some paint work has been done hence a possible wreck in its history.
I just traded up from a 90 LS too btw, you get the same quality and twice the looks!
I hope this helps, good luck!

i got my 98 gs for 17k with 51k miles. i would not call 15k for 80k miles a "steal".
be patient and don't jump on the first thing that comes along. i spent 2 1/2 months looking for mine and i'm glad i took my time.
