This is just driving me nuts - the thin (about 5 mm) circular band of rust on the inner part of my rotors just before the rotor hats. The part of the rotor that the pads don't touch.
Anyone here done anything about this and what did you do to take care of it? I also saw this on a pic that RMMGS4 recently posted up of his front rotors after he had repainted his StopTech calipers red.
I wonder if some high temperature paint on the rotor (front StopTechs 14 inch big brake kit and OEM sized StopTech drilled rears) would be bad for it? I can't think of anything else to get rid of it. My rim style is fairly open and to me, the rust is just too visible for my comfort.

I just looked at mine and I can tell the pad doesn't reach there but it's not rusted as far as I can see. It's certainly not something that anyone but the most **** person would notice.

Anyway, some rust inhibitor (Rustoleum?) type paint would work, but masking off that area would be a royal pain. In fact you'd have to take off the whole caliper to do it I'd think.

paint would not hurt anything. just a pain to do it
check out the painted brake and hub hat pictures of my car gold. and the wifes car silver in the gallery

i don't have same set up you do but i had rust before i had calipers and hub hats painted. no problems with rust since and its been over a year.
my mechanic did it while working on installing the coilovers. he put on a couple of coats of paint. he took the calipers off and painted them too. took several hours for each coat to dry. so it ties up your car for at least 4-6 hrs.
your rear calipers look like mine did before painting. and yours definitely need painting.
i agree with you Hameed about the rust. even if no one else says a word about it, it will drive you nuts, until you finally do something about it. the longer you wait the more you will hate how that looks. it is a pain to have your pride and joy down for a day. but you've got your winter driver to get you around. which will make you appreciate your GS even more. and then at the end of the day your love affair with your GS will reach new heights of ecstasy!
at least this doesn't cost much, mostly just some down time on your car.
good luck

Yeah, I noticed it on my rotors, too. But the car has been so dirty lately, including and especially the inner barrels
, that I just don't let it get to me. And for some odd reason it does not look as bad on a red car.
