Similar instructions as above for the GS400, but for the V6 GS300, loosen the belt tension by turning the drive belt tensioner clockwise, and remove the drive belt.

See the following pulley schematic for the GS300.

Tried over the weekend but I couldnt budge that drive belt tensioner. Will try again later with a longer ratchet. In the meantime....belt dressing sux....I shot silicone lubricant on the belt and it seems to do the job better.

Reviving this thread because I'm getting ready to change the belt on my 99 GS400. I'm not clear on something. When I put a wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt, am I loosening the bolt or just moving/rotating the pulley against the spring tension to lessen the tension on the belt? Thanks.

2JZ-GE <--- our engine code for GS300s, it's a inline 6, like a bmw or a jag
just thought that I would clear that up

I know this is old but I had a question.

I'm thinking about doing the belt swap this weekend.

To echo Fasted's question - am I loosening the bolt or just moving/rotating the pulley against the spring tension to lessen the tension on the belt? Thanks.

You're not loosening anything. What you're doing is moving the spring loaded tensioner pulley arm to take the tension off the belt. When you release it, it will spring right back.

Thanks Fasted - I dropped the car off at the dealership for an oil change and they found the problem. It wasn't the belt, it was the drive belt tensioner. Got quoted for a new drive belt tensioner, belt, timing belt, and all labor for $600. I'm thinking about having them replace the water pump while they're down there... thoughts?
