My wife wants to get a Mercedes one day and the main thing that has me against it is the high cost of maintenance. Out of control.

Default 60k service

Also remember, everything recommended in the 60k service may not be needed...especially at that time. Some of it has to do with your driving style and weather conditions. The condition of a particular fluid also matters. If your tranny fluid is still looking and smelling good...don't change it. If it's of good color, smell and feel there is no reason to change it...or any other fluid.

Dealer replaced my Headlight assembly under warranty and the receipt indicated $450 dollars not $1200. There is a TSB issued on the subject, go to alldata.com. Being out of warranty you may not have a chance. As far as the 60K service read the owners manual. The main items are oil change, transmission change (2 quarts only) and brake fluid change. The transmission is the easiest to change of all, just open the plug on the pan, drain, measure how much you drain and refill. The oil, you should know what that consists of and for the brakes I would not risk getting air in the system. I would use a turkey baster to suck the resvoir down and refill with fresh brake fluid. All the other are inspections are B.S. You can do the 60K service for $50 in parts.

I have had cars with 150K miles, 20 years old and never touched the brake fluid. Does Lexus not build their cars as well as GM? Brake fluid is hydraulic fluid. The enemy of brake fluid is water. Your system is sealed I recommend not even touching your brake fluid.

It is a known fact in the nuclear industry that if human intervention occurs on a piece of equipment there is greater than a 50% chance you will have to address a problem you created during the original repair within 28 days. Bottom line if it is working do not touch it. Nuclear industry personnel would make Lexus service shop personnel appear as fast food restraunt janitors, no comparison on competency. Petrochemical is 60% chance of rework in 28 days.

I bet you $100 if you have the dealer change your transmission fluid it will be overfilled or underfilled but it will not be right. Maybe we should make a poll, everyone who has had the transmission fluid changed check the level as specified in the owners manual and reply if the level is correct.

You're lucky to get a more normal rate for dealer service. When I had my Acura TL, all of the Honda dealerships had no issue working on it (as it's very mechnically similar to the Hond Accords)--and I saved about 20% over the Acura dealer. However, for the most part, Lexus and Toyota likes to have a larger separation between the two (forcing you to go to each separate entities), at least from what it seems.

If you ask for a print out of everything they are planning on doing, you can cross off almost half the things are lower your price to at least 600-700. I was down to 500 and was still unhappy with paying that much but took it and got what I needed done.

That's exactly what I did with my last GS. My service guy was very cool about it.
