My check engine light is on, what could be the cause I know it could be a lot things, but how much will they charge to get a diagnostic at a lexus dealership, or should I have my mechanic do it? Any Ideas

even the diagnotic charge vary, but probably about 80 bucks?

some mechanics they have the computer and they can tell you what's wrong too

At the Lexus dealership, it would cost approximately 1 hour's worth of labor (for around my area, it would be $93). The service guy would hook up a OBDII-compliant scanning tool under the driver steering column and run it for error code(s) when the engine is started.

You can get a free diagnostic check on the error code at your local Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, and Pep Boys (not sure if PB has such a service).

i got mine done free. check at a regular shop like tires plus pep boys, etc. even at lex i got it for free it only takes less than 5 mins. do not pay for this it is a robery to do so.
