I could be wrong, but the pic looks like a OEM wood steering wheel from the SC430, slapped into the GS SportDesign (recognized by the bluish speedo cluster). However, I've never seen the saddle interior in a GS (if that even looks like saddle).

If you go to BananaGS's website, there's an interesting DIY article on how to transfer a SC430 wood steering wheel to the GS. All that is done is relocating the wood pieces of the SC wheel to the existing GS wheel w/out worries of losing the airbag function.

For the year of your GS, this is the closest you can get,
SD shift **** and AS wood steering conversion. The new style 2 stage air bag won't work for 98-00 GS.

that's the GS sport design, you can recognize it from the aluminum face plate, e-shift, etc...

here are all the issues and problem by fitting a 01+ steering wheel on the 98-00 gs, afterwards you probably don’t want to do it at all
1) very expensive. A 01+ steering wheel can cost about 500 bucks, and the airbag is notoriously expensive, over 1k.
2) you can’t use the 98-00 airbag anymore at all, it’s not the same shape
3) the connectors on the airbags are different (01+ are two stage, 98-00 are one stage), so you have to figure out how to do that – also it’s not safe imho
4) 98-00 gs4 has e-shift, gs3 has no e-shift. 01+ gs3 has e shift, gs430 has no e-shift. You have to get the right one

if you want wood, the best bet is to go with american stitches, they have very good wood setup, but the center emblem you can’t get it with the chrome though unfortunately

Dang Chris! I hope that airbag never deploys. I'd hate to see you with an 'L' on your forehead.

Do you have to send them your OEM steering wheel or do you have to buy a new one from them?

You should ask around. There were a few "spare" wheels floating around when the GB was going on. You might be able to "borrow" one or buy one and resell when you are done. I remember a few being bought and passed around by some members (like that set of spacers that the CL members keep buying off one another ).

Good suggestion!! Trouble is I am not much on CL now, so it makes it hard to watch out for such things................
