Is this what you're looking to do??

I have a description of what I did on this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...n&pagenumber=2

I didn't polish the whole manifold, only the part visible through the cover. This required two people to hold the high speed buffer upside down over the engine. This allowed me to polish it while still installed on the car, otherwise removing the manifold just to polish areas that won't be seen is a considerable amount of work and wouldn't be worth it unless you removed the engine cover.

It's a lot of work, so if I were to remove and polish the whole manifold, I'd just take it to a professional shop and pay the money.

Here's a polished 300Z manifold done at my local shop (Wheel Techniques).

Trulux,

I have done lots of polishing and the like. What I do now is I send it out for Chrome powder coating. It's not too expensive, and never requires any upkeep after you have it done (unlike polishing). I've also had stuff ceramic coated, which comes out looking polished too. Great for heat sensitive items. Here's a pic and intake

These guys http://www.fireballcoatings.com/pricelist.html will ceramic coat the intake for a $200 or so CANADIAN ($120 US or so)

Wow, that's amazing polishing job if I may say so........

I still remember back in my old VW days that I used elboy grease to polish my intake manifold. Took me over 13 hours of constant sanding (600grit-1500grit) to get it close to that mirror look!

love the job you did on this where can i get the carbon fiber cover ?

johnny

also
when you:

used a $30 Home Depot buffer with metal polishing wheels and compound to buff everything. If it was made of stainless steel or aluminum , I polished it. You could say I got on a polishing , bling binge. On smooth parts I usually just sanded the part with 1500 grit sandpaper. For rougher parts like the manifold, I started with 100 grit, then progressively to 220, 320, 600 and 1500. I use one of those black and decker palm sanders for most of the work, so it wasn't as labor intensive as it may seem.

does this do anything to weaken the manifold ?

Thanks,
It's an RMM cover, you can get it from Steve @ Carson.

People do polishing like this all the time, so I doub't if there is a weakening. You are removing only a small amount of the surface material. There's still a lot of material left over.

A professional buffer is higher speed than what I got and will buff rougher surfaces better. I have to sand down to 1000+ grit sandpaper before I can use my little shop buffer. A lot more elbow grease, but similar results. Also use a polishing compound for use on aluminum buffing wheels, plus follow up with Mothers or other brand of hand finishing polish.

Stainless steel hose clamps polish up real easy. I'm thinking of re-polishing my SS exhaust too.

Good Luck.
