We think this thread no longer has anything to do with a cigarette lighter not working.

yeah, I want to get back on track here!

I've looked at the manual and the fuse area's and did not particularly notice any other fuse that might be functional for the cig lighter next to the ashtray. I did replace a fuse and it has my armrest plug working now, but the dash one is still not working.

If we've got no power there, but it's good at the arm-rest/console area, do we need to unscrew the dash plug as mentioned above and put a volt meter on it?

Is there a diode behind there?? Would it blow along with a fuse?

pull out the ashtray with lightersocket out(comes out as one) 1st to check if its plugged in

NOTE...make sure the car in in nutral and the Emergency break is on .
also there is some sort of object i for now call it a diode since im not sure of its name but i guess its a safty item meant to melt at a certain heat range.

Default DO YOU HAVE VOLTAGE AT THE WIRE?

Test the wire you have with a multimeter or test light. Just make sure that if you use a test light, one end must be connected to "ground" so the light will illuminate.

If you have voltage at the wire, the lighter itself is the problem.

The key must be in "ACC" or "ON"position for voltage to be present at the cigarette lighter assembly. I have a service manual, and will look up the fuse if you need to know which one it is.

Good luck!

then look at the back of the ciagarette lighter ...see where that arrow is at ?..what you will need to do is check to make sure you get current from both ends of the black item if you dont you will need to pry the holders off each end of the black item and replace it with a thin pice of wire make sure to add some shring tubing on it .

NOTE if this checks out ok and your current is ok in the wiring then im stumpped

wellif you ned more help post here or pm me.

I did what you said ranger and I did not notice anything different. all the wires look good, but still it does not work. the fuse 16 (15amp) is good. I'm not sure what is going on. Do you think I have to bring it to lexus?
