To all who are inquiring about a factory oem wood wheel upgrade to there 98-2K GS:
I have retrofitted a 2001+ oem wood steering wheel w/ E-shift from a GS300 to my 99 GS4 using all factory parts.
You MUST use a 2001 RX300 single stage airbag for the install as 2001+ GS use 2 stage units with dual plugs for interfacing with car.
The is a plug and play; the connector and harness are the same for both airbags:
Lexus p/n 45130-48040-C0
E-shift/cruise control harness is exactly the same; just plug it in.
If you wish to block off the opening on the left side of the wheel where the audio controls are located for 2001+ GS's:
Lexus p/n 45187-48010
I'm adding the audio/nav control switches to my wheel to be used with a portable mp3 player I use in the car. This will require me to create my own wiring harness but the switch and switch case p/n's are:
Lexus p/n 86174-24010 switch case
Lexus p/n 84245-3W20 audio control switch
good luck

1SickLex,
My car (GS400) came with E-Shift originally, so........yes the E-shift controls function exactly as they should.
I don't think the audio control pod on the left side of the wheel would function with the oem Pioneer system, even if you had the harness from the wheel to stereo. I'm modifying my switch assembly to run
a mp3 player I use in my car.

GSing430,
While I'm no authority on the ECU's of this vehicle, you would not only need the E-shift steering wheel but the wiring harness and ECU to interface with the car. I do find it interesting that Lexus no longer offers this enhancement on ANY of their V8 cars.
While I don't have any time to commit to this other excercise at the moment, I have laid my hands on a new 6 speed auto tranny from an LS430 that would be totally kill for this car. I want to use this method in luie of the TT supra rear to keep my cruising speeds/RPM down while getting the off the line acceleration boost of the lower gear set. BMW has moved their 545 auto cars to this arena and while only boosting their engine hp/tq outputs modestly (325hp) the cars are rockets from a dead stop. Take a test drive in a new LS 430 and see how that car just leaps off the line !!
Now put that tranny in a GS with stock gear and a TC......bang bang..lights out !

nice, 01+ steering wheels are alot cleaner than the old ones especially w/ the wood, can you make it work on a GS430, (in regards to using the e-shifts)?
