Actually I just had the new generation of 3M PPF put on my car and it takes Zaino quite well! Two coats of Z2 and it is shiny as hell and has the same smooth touch as the painted panels, after all it does have clearcoat on the top of it. I just repainted my hood and put the Xpel on only to take a road trip to Houston and get two small chips about 24 inches up my hood. I thought seriously about doing the whole hood too! You're not crazy TLW, or at least you have some company!

Dark colored cars this would be a bad idea, but you can't even see it on my burnished gold.

that's called murphy law man

dunno, i wouldn't do the whole hood, it's too much for very little chance imho. that's just me

yes the xpel has clear coat and you can wax, polish it. but dunno, as good as it can gets, i still prefer to work with real body panels

am I mistaken or is Xpel the program that cuts the film for you ? my local shop explained to me that Xpel isnt the film and it was just a computer program that cuts...

When i was lookin into doin it they had clear film and a cutter ... film had some name Venture something...
now it seems Xpel is a brand of film and not a program...

would cost me 500-800 to do a complete front end of Gs...

so the store is mistaken ?

XPel is a company that packages the system. They develop the templates for different cars and use 3M film. Most installers who installs XPel will have bulk film and a plotter/cutting machine since it is cheaper to do it this way. You can also buy precut film from XPel and try installing yourself.

Based on MachIII, the new CL vendor, Venture film is of better quality film then 3M for a few reasons.

Your shop was not mistaken that XPel is not a film.

FYI
I got that video (it is free) and it was a big help getting the just on appying the film. On Xpel's site they have a demo ( not a video)of the thick headlight film being done on a GS.
With the extreme curves of the head light, it is almost impossible to do w/o seeing the demo unless your experienced. I messed up on my 1st piece ( Xpel sent me another one) then I printed off the demo page and it was ALOT easier to do still time consuming.
