Default Rotten Eggs smell

Hi

I am have a 2001 GS430 that i have purchased used. Sometimes when i drive i get this rotten EGG smell, after taking the car to the dealer they said USE GOOD Gas, i normally use 93 octane.

Another issue is sometimes when i start the car and its still cold start driving stepping on the gas the car hesitates like it stalls and then picks up .. I cant really explain it further.. any one has any sugestions. I still have 3 month left on the waranty of the car and would like to get all these cool things resolved prior to waranty expiration.

Does anyone here sugests in purchasing extended waranty through Lexus. ?

Where in NY do you live? I am in Staten Island I have a 2001 gs430 also Smell is normal if you are getting on the car for a little bit. The hesitation I dont have it. How many miles do you have on you car? If you have over 36000 you can not get the Lexus warranty .I Think? If you can get it do. I have the 7yr 100000 one I paid 1950 for it . I am happy with it. Don't hesitate if you have any other questions.

Wink I had it too- before

I had the dealer change my cats on my previous Y2KGS400. I would say that the smell is also the cats.
The hesitation may by the TPS sensor. They seem to go bad on the GS alot. My regular tech guy at the dealer says he changes them out alot.
The service techs at the Lexus dealer know about the TPS sensor. (TSB) Do a (search) for more info.

I heard you can go without the cats, but it's illegal in most places.

I had an Old Aurora that had this smell. I found tons of stuff on the internet suggesting the cats. Turned out that the battery for that car was under the rear seat and it was shot. I replaced the battery and vent and the problem went away completely. Have your battery tested... odor could possibly be drifting your direction and it's as simple as that. Good luck.

Ok, it is definitly ILLEGAL to hollow out your cat or getting a straight pipe. The problem is most likely your cat....do you feel like you have a loss of power or slow acceleration at times?

I don't think it's the cats for the simple reason that they rarely fail. I'd first suspect something more mundane, like a piece of plastic stuck to the exhaust, or something wrong with the mixture. Earlier this year my Civic couldn't pass the emissions test here in Dallas, and a local shop that specialized in Hondas and Acuras wanted to replace the catalytic converter. Took it to another shop that also specialized in Hondas, and they tweaked the mixtures and did something else that gave me a bunch more power. The car also aced the emissions test with very low emissions. All that for $88. The shop owner reaffirmed what I knew but forgot: cats rarely fail. And if they fail, they're covered by the emissions warranty, not the normal car warranty.

Yes i feel like i have loss of power.. Example.. Today i started the car and started driving out of parkinglot and stepped on the gas, the car jerked like it had alot of gas dumped into the intake and then it processed the gas.. maybe i need a tuneup.. only have 40 000 miles on the car.

I usually get that smell when somone in front of you floors the car and the hard sudden acceleration gives off the smell when gas is burn since gasoline have sulfer in it and its the smell of the burnt sulfur.
My car does that sometimes when i floor it hard....

It's the Sulfur from the Cat and O2 sensors that cause your rotten egg smell and hesitate problem. You warranty is 50K bumper to bumper.

Default LEXUS WARRANTY IS 4 YRS 50,000 Miles

The Lexus Factory warranty is 4 years /50,000 miles. If you have a 100,000 mile warranty, it does not take effect until your 50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty has expired. The bumper to bumper has NO deductible. After 50,000 miles it is a different story. There may be no deductible, but only certain things are covered.
