Well I noticed when I first got my car that the wood on the passenger's side of the center console (gear ****er area) was bowed out a bit in the middle (near the radio is fine, and near the center arm rest is fine, but inbetween it sticks out ever so slightly toward the passenger). But it was nothing you could ever tell visually, only by touch, and so I didn't think twice about it and never brought it to my dealer's attention since no car is going to line up perfectly, especially not real wood.

Well now 20k-30k miles later the wood has bowed out even more and has started to pop or creak almost any time I hit a large bump or even sometimes when I brake or accelerate moderately, and it creaks badly whenever anybody rests their leg against it in the passenger seat, too.

I can take my hand and feel that it has physically push it back in slightly and it 'pops' when I do this.

Is there any way to fix this other than getting new wood? I don't even care if it sticks out, I just want it to stop making noise. Is it easy for me to pull the wood up and maybe put some foam or some other form of insulation in there?

could it be that the wood got lifted up?

Strange, the wood is extremely thin and attached to a plastic backing. I have no idea how it would ever bulge unless it was not installed correctly. It is easy enough to pop of the entire center console and investigate from behind.
