Tranny Noise?
Hello Everyone,
my name is John and i just bought an '00 GS300. I love the car, way better than the Acura RL I had prior. My issue is that there seems to be alot of noise when I shift from Park to Drive and again from Drive to Park. It is mostly a clicking noise. It is quite loud and VERY annoying. Also when i shift from Reverse to drive( still rolling back just slightly) the tranny makes a noise. ( my Acura was as smooth as glass when I did this). My brother and his friends think I'm being a hypo"car"driac, he has a 98 Supra,turbo,700 RWHP. They are all trying to make me TURBO my Lexus, I dont know about that. I like a car that drives for more than 2 days without needing repair, hahaha. Anyways, can someone please advise me as what to do. BTW the car has 83K on it. Thanx in advance.

The only thing I can think of:
This is the brake pads making a click when you change directions.
I had a similar noise on my car that went away when I just did the breaks.
A Loud Click.

if you are talking about a popping noise when you shift to reverse when you first warm your car up and then drive it, then that is normal. i have that with my gs too.

hmm. going from drive to park, and park to drive and getting the same symptom does not sound familiar at all to me!
now, Reverse to drive, or vice versa,......even Park to drive.......all can cause that click/pop noise that I've read here is simply the Anti-lock doing a self check. (it will always happen once the car is rolling, and you hit the brakes the first time. It will only re-happen if the car is turned off and back on again)
If you have a different or louder noise, it would sound like a possible U-joint problem to me. (more of a clunk, and happens as soon as you put it into gear)
Now, if you can get the noise going into PARK, then that just doesn't sound good/normal to me. ie. you pull in your driveway, come to complete stop, move selector to Park and BAM, you got noise?
Loose tranny bolt or crossmember bolt??

You car has "rubber" dougnuts for u-joints so I doubt it is the actual "u-joint". It may be your drive shaft flange bolts need retorqued. They are supposed to be checked every 5K miles. It is a long shot but worth a try.

There is an selenoid under the shifter. This unit sometimes make this noise. You can take the whole shifter unit off and try to put some grease in there. The best thing is to replace it. It's kinna hard to diagnost the vehicle without having in front me.
