What do people feel so bad? This wasn't a bright thing to do......Generally, when you do stupid things, something is bound to happen.....Duh...

sorry to hear about the damage.. best of luck with the insurance but imo its a pretty safe bet it will be totalled and if not it would be in your intrest to do so for what may appear fine now might rear its ugly head a few months from now in the form of corrosion ..

good luck to ya

May I suggest a Hummer. You must have plowed the water forcing it into the intake. I hope they total it!!!

yeah- even if you had no choice and were forced to drive through water-you must have been going way too fast(like faster then a quarter mile per hour) unless it was all the way up to intake. I wouldn't go in water past the middle of hubs-ever with my 430.
Still sucks though-even if it is your fault

Speed was really not the issue, we were just going thru the parking lot, maybe 5 mph?
The problem was that I could not see how deep the water was. When I entered the lot, it was only 3 inches, and the whole lot looked just like that. As I came around the pump, I hit a much deeper area where the parking lot sloped down to the drain. By that time, the water was splashing over the hood, and the damage was done.

The Lexus dealership has been great, and they will have an estimate for the repairs on Friday. Insurance has not raised any issues about covering the damage (flood/storm damage under comprehensive), and I should find out if they are going to total it this weekend.

For your sake....hope its totalled.

Yah...rule of thumb...never drive into an area flooded with water....esp. if you are NOT familiar to the area.

I'll have to agree on that one-I doubt that car could ever be right again

I am sorry man, but I can't feel empathetic to what happened to you (the ONLY rule you should remember is never drive into a stagnant pool of water, in the dark, you will never know how deep it is, if it's potholed, mined (yes, nasty people would throw sharp objects just to see your cars get stuck with flat tires in the middle of a pool here)).

What I do know that here in Jakarta we get massive floods during the monsoons when the river would swell up and pretty much take over much of the city. These times u get murky brown water that turned the whole city like a flat, wet, watery landscape. You won't see dips, holes, inclines, declines. Nothing, just flat expanses of water that looks like you could almost walk through. But man, I see big a$$ trucks and buses like 3/4 deep coz they totally missed their turn and ended up in a HUGE ditch and most of their bodies disappeared.

Ask the other Indonesians here, they know what I am talking about.

You don't want to drive that precious car through this:

12ft of water...

Check out where the basketball ring is....now u know how deep this thing go...

Amazing to me how you can total a car without getting into an accident, with just a little too much water.
Hope it all works out for you.

I guess the $20k engine is a brand new GS430 engine.

Let us know how it goes with the insurance company.
20K for a BRAND NEW engine. You could get a low-mileage 430 V8 out of a wrecked GS for about 2 grand. Noone needs them because they do not break, and as a result, there is no demand.

That's why premiums go up, one way or another.
