I have a weird bass type sound at 55mph area. I think it might be tires(orig Eagle GT+4s w/23k) but I'm not sure. So I have new Goodyear GS-D3s coming from tirerack on Tuesday.
I also have an appointment with dealer on Monday to check car to find noise. (still waranty )

Should I wait until after tires for appointment or go to dealer first. I was going to ask them to also check out suspension etc.

What would you guys do?

Is it when u drop the rear windows down only?

 

No, but it sounds alot like that sound you get w/back windows down. I notice it is a little louder when I decelerate through the 62-55 range. It's not like obnoxious loud, but noticable.

 

What should I have the dealer look at?^

Can you tell us a little more about this sound? Does it occur only over a narrow RPM range, can you reproduce it only with the car in motion or will it occur when you rev it in idle also. Can you FEEL a vibration or only hear the sound. I have some ideas but need more info.

 

It has nothing to do with rpm,only speed. I even coasted through that mph range in neutral and it did it. It is like a bass type sound-Not superloud but it's there everytime at that speed(55-62) no matter what. You can't feel a vibration-just sound.

 

did you hear it from underneath the body?

take a look at the bodyplugs underneath the chassis..make sure they are all there (could cause amplified wind noise)

 

thanks- I'm not sure what body plugs are but I think saw them &they are all there. Are they maybe a little bigger than a quarter rubber plugs along bottom of car on each side?-They are all there

 

yep...hmm I guess it's not from the body plugs then..

 

Does this sound like tires to you guys? They are original 2001 tires. (16inch Eagle GT+4 w?22K)Could be getting dried out ? I know they have only about 1/3 or so of tread left

 

My appointment is tomorrow at 9 am. Anybody got any last sugestions?

 

i had that before and that's when my tires start to wear out. did you check the tires?

 

Had it at the dealer today- They said it's the tires. I will find out for sure Wed. I ordered Goodyear GS-D3s.
The dealer is going to mount and balance all 4 new tires for $105. I thought that was fair-

Local tire shop's about $80 and thats if you can get them to mount someone elses tires. I called them just for a quote and they said they would not mount them "due to Liability"

BTW-Who else is running Goodyear Eagle GS-D3s?
