NAV antenna & Tinting
#1
Hi all:
I posted earlier in the Electronics forum but got no response... was hoping someone might be able to help/offer suggestions.... Thanks in advance
I remember someone on here running a wire from the antenna at the rear to a new, bought antenna near the front windshield. He did this in order to be able to have metallic tinting and not have the signal be blocked at times.
I just got off the phone with Lexus HQ, and after waiting for 6 minutes while someone researched their literature, I was told that the antenna was in fact underneath the rear deck lid, right in the dead center next to the glass.
Has anyone verified this????
I want to have my windows done this weekend and would prefer the metallic tint versus non b/c it does not fade as quickly, but at the same time I do not want to lose my NAV signal.
Has anyone else tried what ptam (I believe) did with his 2001??? What does everyone recommend on here??? I'm thinking of doing 35% all around...
Thanks for your input!!!

call this
get a clarion ant that is place inside the rear deck,
part #096-0133-30
1800-go-clarion, option 3 , ask for alberto ~$25
go for the titanium/platnum 35%(for grey interior), 50%(for blk int). that is how i like the shade

Thanks Will...
Do you have a NAV on your GS4???? I figure I may as well try a metallic film first, then worry about the antenna only if I notice my signal not working as well.... I figure 50% all around with the black interior will be dark enough, but not so much cops will ticket me for it.
Anyone else from So. Cal here that has plat, met. tint on a GS with NAV???
I'm getting it done tomorrow morning... just trying to get as much input as possible!

no problem
for me, NAV-do not leave home without it
like you said, just get the tint at 50%, very classy looking, effective, less chance of hearing siren and seeing red in the rear view mirrior.
get the antenna when you need it-make sure you write down the info, incase i lose mine.

done
Will,
Went with the metallic all around... 35% on the sides and 20% on the back (after seeing 50 I decided 35% is still light enough for my taste).
The car looks so much better than it did without the windows done IMHO.
I'll be holding on to the Clarion info if the need to call ever arises... thanks again for your help!

Yes, I have verified the location of the antenna. When I had my tint installed, I found the antenna to the left of the subwoofer on the rear deck. I found that after installing metalized tint, 99% of the time, I was not able to recieve a GPS signal.
Rather than removing the tint, I was able to connect the Clarion AutoPC GPS antenna to my Nav Unit and run the antenna to my dashboard, where I do not have any tint, and I have not had any problems with it since.
The rep's name at Pacific Coast Parts (Clarion's parts delaer) that can help you out is named Roberto.
I've got my front windows tinted at 70% and the rears at 35%.

2001 GS300 Navigation/Tint
I just wanted to know if the people that installed the Clarion GPS Antenna had to modify anything or if it was just a simple plug in! Just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that i have a 2001 Nav unit made by Denso apparently. Please let me know exactly if you can what is really involved in moving the antenna. Thanks for all your help guys!!!
