Default Updating 1998 GS Navigation ?'s

I recently acquired a 1998 GS400 for the wife. Wow, I am so in love with this car. I drive a 97 LS400, and the GS seems so much faster and agile in comparison. We traded in her old RX300 for this one, and we're very happy with the purchase.

It's the dark green color, with a spoiler and 17" chrome wheels. The navigation system is excellent, but it is on the 1999 revision of the maps. I understand that it's not a DVD system, but I would need to buy some kind of new hard drive to hold the new maps. Is this only available through the dealer? How much should I expect to pay?

I just started a new career as a real estate salesperson (my past jobs were - analytical chemist, desktop technician, NOC/Telecom manager, Enterprise Administrator, and IT/Finance Analyst). Just finished my MBA last year, and looking forward to seeing what I can do within the real estate industry. The navigation is great when looking for new homes in an unfamiliar area, but when I try to find tracts that are newer than 1999 - well they're not on there

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Welcome to CLublexus and congrats on your recent success. You can go to the dealer and they can update the NAV by downloading the newest info. I think it's about $100 or so.

My dealer told me for 98 and 99 hard drive based Nav, you got 2 free upgrade which is not depended on the warrenty. even you got a used car but the previous owner didn't use all the 2 free upgrade, you still can use what the previous owner left over. I got my 98 updated 1 and half years ago, and when I did my service manager told me I still got once free update left.

For all those DVD based Nav, I have no idea

The hard drive navigation upgrade I believe is 300.00+ dollars to swap out your old hard drive with a new one.

Yup. Your only hope is through someone with access to a Lexus dealers parts department. You may find the HD cheaper from an online lexus parts dealer. That is the route I would thoroughly check out first.

Default Navi hard drive update questions

Anyone planning on upgrading thier navigation disk November 2004?

What price were you quoted at Lexus for the new drive replacement?

Is it an easy job to replace yourself?
