Default Should I Buy This GS300?

Hello GS group. I am looking at a '99 GS300 with 175K on it for about $10K. It is loaded and clean. I have owned a '92 LS400 for 7 years and it has 210K. I love the car, but am looking to upgrade.

I have a good idea what to look for on the LS and know that the V8 is bullet proof. What should I look for on the GS. Can I expect to get the miles out of the 6 cylinder? Any help is appreciated and if I get the car I look forward to looking in the GS forum more often.

Thanks - and "GO TWINS"

He must really put in alot of freeway mileage. I have a 99 also with 106 and I do lots of freeway driving also. As for being a 99 GS300 owner, no problem with the car whatsoever. Just check for the usual: oil leak, rust, ac still cold, timing belt -of course, blah blah blah....

And welcome to CL

175k is pretty bad...... we arent talking bout 100k clean ... thats close to 200k. The price is not that competitive to be honest with you. I had seen a 99 GS300 silver with gray leather go for 10500 in the dealers auction. It had 90k on it!! I guess that would be considered a steal for half the mileage. Thats just my .02

Thanks everyone for the info.
I think I will shy away from this one unless I can get it cheap, cheap, cheap and just drive the wheels off it. The problem is they just keep going and going and going.....
Don't tell everyone so we can still find a deal on a used Lexus.

You can't really argue with the price you are paying, assuming everything is in acceptable shape

I would be nervous paying 10k for a car with 175,000 miles...lexus or not...

I'm planning on getting a '98 GS300 also. Is the I6 as bulletproof as the V8's? How long do they run before needing a major overhaul?

there's a 2000 Lexus GS400 for $28,000
just under 60,000 miles.
no accidents
all services done by lexus and recorded
(certified by lexus)
fully loaded (navigation, leather, e-shift, etc.)

think it's good?

The 6 has to be every bit as bullet-proof as the 8. Think about it, the 2JZ block is the base of the Supra motor, can handle roughly up to 600hp in mods without breaking a sweat, etc.

Doesn't the I6 in the Supra have better internals to handle higher gains?
