Default Teaser? nahhh... here's the new trunk setup in my GS

Got all this done just before NOPI in Atlanta last week. Really I mean, just before NOPI as in 4:30am the day I drove down there. If you read my car of the month writeup in July, one area I thought my car lacked was 'bump in the trunk'. My old setup sounded pretty good, but IMO was not aesthetically appealing for 'show' and didn't hit terribly hard. Here's a picture of the "before" setup (10W3, JL 500/5)

So I decided with all the investment I had recently done in my car, I didn't want that one area lingering 'un-done'. I documented the progress all along in my website gallery (click here). In short, I had the following pieces installed:

JL 10 inch W7 sub
JL 1000/1 amp
JL 450/4 amp
Monster caps, 2 ga power kit, fuse holder, upgraded speaker wire and interlinks, distribution kits, etc.
Additional Dynamat throughout including front doors and new baffles.
We used the new Dynaxorb panels on the bottom or the sub enclosure
Other small stuff I'm forgetting and will add later

Like all the other stuff I've done to my GS, I wanted the trunk setup to be tasteful but noticable. Not over-done, but still easily recognizable as a nice modification. I still wanted to be able to use my trunk if I needed to and have access to store and pull out the spare tire.

I also wasn't willing to give up my rear strut tower brace, so my installer (Tweeter in Charlotte) worked around it, eventually embedding it in the design. If you look closely at the pics of the sub box, the Tom's STB is wrapped in a black shrink tube and sealed tightly going right through the middle of the box!

In addition to the imbedded STB, the box is pretty trick. The W7 is inverted in the enclosure and the connectors seem to end by into the side of the box. The inside back of the box is polished aluminum and the walls are a carbon fiber pattern vinyl. The outside of the box is a tightly wrapped black vinyl as are the amp racks. The amp racks are two level so all the wiring drops right down to the lower level. There are hidden neons (no bright neon) over top of the amps and white and light blue in the sub box for a little light.

Here are a few pics of the final "after" result:

Power and fuse holder under the hood, note the nicely ensheathed wiring

Back deck with Dynamat and 2ga wiring.

New door install. Turns out my old baffles were plywood, not MDF

Behind the back seat (caps, xovers, distribution, etc)

Running the wires down the door jamb

Lots more in-process pictures in the folder I linked above if you want to look through 'em

Still got to get this sucker tuned and get rid of a bit of a whine that won't go away. My OEM antenna was causing some noise as well. Looks wise, I'm feeling good about it.

Nope, judges had no clue what they were. They were pretty disinterested in talking with us about the cars at Nopi and didn't spend a whole lot of time looking at them IMO. A little disappointing.

slick install, dave

huge improvement over the former, but still very classy...love how they incorporated the STB in with the set-up.

That setup is awesome. I was wondering how an install would look surrouding a rear STB.

Very nice Dave! Everytime I think of your car, I think of the JP tailights and the SC.

Very, very clean installion. If it sounds nearly as great as it looks, then you really have a great system. Very nice. Congratulations. Now, would you mind doing mine?
