Concerns over a used GS300 for sale
Hi all - This is my first time posting here. Maybe you guys can give me some advice on what will be one of the biggest financial decisions I will make in my life.
I went and test drove a used '98 GS300 from a private party today. The ride was clean throughout. It has 79k miles selling for 16.5k. I'm really liking this car as it seems well taken care of.
The only cloud hanging over this is the carfax I ran. This GS300 was originally from Georgia and the owner just moved to California a few years ago. When I examined the mileage records, I found during a span of 2 months, roughly 15k miles was put on the car. The exact miles were from 50,031 to 65,983. Would this be considered abuse?
Should I be worried about the excessive wear and tear that might have happened during those 2 months?
Please help!! I really don't really want to buy it and be forced to have the engine overhauled after a year or two. I'm planning on keeping this car for a long time.
Thanks!
David

I think a house would be a bigger financial decision.
It could be that the previous owner did some commuting between Gerogia and CA during the move and racked up a lot of miles. Actually, those are highway miles and would be much better overall for the car than commuting miles. It could also be that one of those odo readings posted on the report is a typo. If everything else checks out I wouldn't worry.

have you considered simply asking the seller about how the miles got racked up so quickly? To me, if this person is hesitant to answer you, then he/she is not being totally honest about something . Red flag!!! If this were to happen, I would just go look for another car. Good luck.
