Default I shoulda listened...

hi all...hope everyone is having a great summer.

its been about 6 months since i bought my 2001 GS300. before buying i asked CL whether i should get the GS300 or the 400/430 and everyone said 400/430. and i happened to stumble upon a great deal on a mint condition GS300 with the color combo i wanted - silver on black.

ive been holding out on modding because i havent been sure i wanna keep it - so im gonna sell her...you guys were right again...

if anybody wants to sell a G430 or buy a GS300 please let me know...

I had a GS3 also... I loved it but once i rode in a GS4 i sold it.

The smoothness / power of the V8 is awesome.

I was the same way. Get a 3 or hold out for the 4. Held out and glad I did.

If you were in califonia and I hadn't modded the hell out of my car I would have done a trade with you. I don't think you have looked at the full potential of a gs300....

the handling is almost the same in both classes.

V8 = most we can do is supercharge which is cool....

I6 = supra motor = twin turbo = HUGE potential....which has a cool factor of about 10+

I mean interior wise...theres nothing you cant get that a 400 or 430 doesnt have...besides the engine...

if that is your main concern is the power....dont do any cosmetic mods, save up and just boost the sucker...

go to Supraforums.com or check out our sc300/400 forum.....

I say keep the car! ultimate decision is yours though

wish u would stay with the 3 and c what can b done....with the 400 u get a good amount of power right away and some think its enough with some mods but like Panda said the potential for the 300 is crazy. if u still have the car in January u'll understand....pm me...

Thats very true... But i got the GS cause its a classy car that is quick... If i wanted speed id just get a supra or a Z06.

But a turbo GS3 does have lots of potential... Lots more then a 400/430.

here's the reasons i wanna change...

1. i want NAV and HID...
2. for the same price as turbo and other mods needed i will easily cover the cost of a 430 with intake exhaust and a few small mods.
3. i like the deep rumble of the V8 with borla.

its not really the speed im after but more a combination of the whole package. plus if i get 20's on my 300 now i will HAVE to do mods to maintain similar power whereas a 430 with 20's is not as badly affected by the rims etc. the 430's are dropping in price fast because of the new GS coming out...

dont get me wrong...the 300 is GREAT but i bought it on a moments noticeknowing i probably would get rid of it sooner than later and upgrade to either the GS430 or the LS...

but just to silence me can someone with a nicely modded 300 (turbo, intake, exhaust etc.) - how much would i have to spend total to make it as quick or a little quicker than the 430...if i could affrodably make it happen i may reconsider!!!

Adding intake/chip/exhaust isnt going to get you even clost to a 430. You will need to go turbo. and most kits alone are atleast 4,500+... not including instalation, exhaust, tuning ect...

My friend has a turbo IS300 and to get his running perfect w/ stock internals and running a piggyback system he spent around 10k

It is true that you can get a GS430 at a great price. But this also means that if you sell (or trade-in) your GS300, you will not get much for it.

I chose the GS300 over the GS430 because there was no 2004 GS430 in the country. I still have no regrets on buying the GS300.

Anyway, good luck with your search.

You can get a supercharger kit (bolt-on) for $5K...install should only cost $500 (8 hours) plus tuning...or you can go the Turbo route which may cost a bit more with tuning, exhaust, etc...

Also HID and NAV do come with the 300...it's just another option.
