Stall, My GS Stalled!!!!!
I dont believe it my GS Stalled on me, I dont know what I would have done if it happened in a public place I would have died I thought when my '90 Cavalier Coupe died I was done with cars stalling, what is going on. Can someone let me know what is going on and if it happened to you (I feel so alone) no one I know has ever had this happen to them with there lex
Heres the back story:
98 GS4 , 88,271 K miles, no engine work ever, no water damage, no accidents, owned for 18 months. I was driving home from work about 5 min ride on a sunny near perfect day pulled into parking lot and pulled head in into a parking space (I know I should always back in) before I got to the curb the car cut off, so i drifted to the curb. I sat there in disbelief put her in park then started her back up w/no problem.
HELP PLEASE

Did you just pour gas? sometimes that just happens and it might not be your car but more to do w/ something funky in your fuel. Maybe you poured in an offbrand fuel. Or maybe you were just running really low on gas and the tank had all the fuel to one side. Either way, if the problem doesn't come again and isn't consistent I wouldn't worry too much. Sometimes its just a fluke.
But honestly In my opinion..... (hush hush secret) .... i think your car is trying to tell you its time for Boost. Its getting bored and wants some juice to awaken its soul. but thats only my opinion.....

Was the A/C or climate control off? The rpms can dip too low if the A/C or climate control are off. This happened once on my car, and it stalled. I cleaned the throttle body, reset the ECU and it has never reoccured.
It could also be a bad throttle position sensor.

Yes, the culprit could usually be a really low tank of gas, sudden drop in rpm, or a heat-soaked engine that usually caused a sudden cut-off. I wouldn't worry too much if it only happened once. My car died on me a few times already, but of course it is nowhere near stock either hahahaha.

Mine does this all the time whenever i decide to BS and not put gas in until i fill all the way up because i'm all the way out. My car seems to run a lot better on that last 1/4 tank of gas for some reason, so i love to use it! But whenever i do, i fill all the way up, start it, tape the gas, RPM drop and the car stalls. No biggy, start it up, and proceed. *Act like nothing happened*

Here's my personal experience. Mine died while I was on the freeway and that was Scary Luckily I was able to start it up quickly after putting in neutral, exit the freeway, opened up the hood, poked around and found the stock airbox was loose at the top connection. I had to returned the intake to stock to get it smogged.

At least I'm not the only one but my Gas tank was half full, I'm totally stock, and there nothing loose (that I can see) hopefully it doesnt happen again because between law school, work, and my baby being sick (im talking about the GS) I was about to go crazy

Timely thread!
I've owned my car for a little over a year now and it died maybe ONCE in that time.
Since my torque convertor installation, it's died about 3-4 times when driving very slow, ie. maneuvering in a parking lot, gas station, pulling to stop light, etc.
I was starting to get concerned, but, at least I'm not alone with this little bug.

didn't read the thread to carefuly but I have also had stall in my 00 GS400
The conditions are stop and go traffic where you are moving like 2 miles an hour for a least 15 minutes or so with the AC off.
This is a low idle problem in my case (which is casued by??? Bad TPS? dirty intake?)
The fix keep the AC on and no more stalls.
