There will be small writing on the dash saying "Nakamichi". The standard system has no writing. Mark Levinson systems have it written as well, as well as a center mounted dash speaker.

Put your ear right up to the rear speakers, and put the system on blast, if you can hear, then its a pioneer, if not then its a nakamatchi

J/k

Yah, it should be marked

Talking

Can also go to nakamichi.com for a view of the Nakamichi logo; this, of course, is also on the faceplate as well as the name. Sort of a stylish yin/yang of a half circle..............

Well that's because the rear speakers in the nakamichi are in the rear doors... the pioneer speakers are up on the rear deck.

After looking at the Nak speakers in my car, I think they put them in the doors because they wanted to use custom built enclosures... something I've never seen out of any other stereo in a premium brand car other than lexus (and neither has my friend who's been installing stereos for 5 years now).

Does the Lev system use sealed factory speaker enclosures too?

Sorry, the rear Pioneers are definitely in the rear (doors, NOT on the deck) and I suspect use the same enclosures as the Nak. Have you got pics of the Nak enclosures?

Here is the premium HU (Pioneer), looking for one of the Nak.

Hmm... don't know why I remember the Pioneer speakers being in the rear deck. Maybe I'm remember my 02+ ES loaner instead?

Oh well.

Not sure if the pics you have in the previous post is of Nakamichi or Pioneer enclosures, but that's pretty much exactly what I remember my enclosures looking like for my Nak.

I wonder about the levinson system?

You seem kind of defensive about the pioneer system!

Sorry about that, trying to reply quickly and work at the same time this morning, no defense intended . I don't have any great love for the Premium system, it's all been ripped kicking and screaming from my own GS . I think the Nak definitely sounds better than the Pioneer all around, both are 'acceptible' but neither are amazing.

I just try to quickly correct misinformation whenever I see it and I'm pretty sure of the answer so folks don't go off on the wrong track (like back deck info).

Yeah the speakers (as for pioneer) are on the doors b\c my passengers keep kicking the mesh coverings and getting black shoe marks all over it when gettting out. They're a PITA to clean! Not sure if the plastic covers will make the Lexus look cheesy/too much plastic, but I like them on the Nissans/infinitis.
