Is the GS430 a true luxury car?
I just got my first edision of modifed luxury mag in the mail yesterday, and i was hoping to see our GS in there, and was disappointed that the GS was not in there yet since the magazine is still new. What price range would a true luxury ride be around?(40,50 or 60,and up)For what I paid for My GS430 it better be a true luxury car.
Anybody care to share some thoughts.

This is a pretty subjective thing, like asking someone to define techno music. I don't think you can set an arbitrary price threshold and declare that all vehicles above it are now luxury cars, while those below are something else.
I've most often heard the GS called a "luxury sports sedan". This seems apt, given that I would consider the LS the true "luxury car" in the Lexus lineup. In my mind, a true luxury car gives up some performance in the name of ultimate cushiness--in the ride, amenities, soundproofing, etc.
Why do you care what category other people think your car fits into anyway? If you love your GS430, then that's all that matters!

To me the GS is part luxury car, part sports sedan, but it does both very well, and it's definitely a premium vehicle.
Lexus' only true 100% luxury car is the LS430, and it does a stellar job at it, too. The ES330 is an entry-level luxury car, and the IS300 is an entry-level premium sports sedan. The GS kind of takes the sportiness of the IS and combines it with the luxury of the LS.
I honestly just think that the GS doesn't get mentioned in many magazine articles anymore because it's old. I mean 1998 may not sound old, but considering that 05 models have been out on the market for several months now, it is easily a 7, almost an 8 year old design that really hasn't been updated or improved upon much at all during its time. When the new GS comes out I'm sure we'll be reading plenty about it.

I believe the GS is a luxury car. But it is also way over due for a re-design and thus is not getting much press these days. I'm hoping however that the 06 GS will be a bit sportier. Check that, a LOT sportier.

speaking of classification, I was over on kbb.com and noticed that the GS400/430 was classified as a luxury car, but the GS300 wasn't found on the luxury car section. It was only found on the sedans section.
Now other than the engine, what would a GS4 have that a GS3 wouldn't, other than being more expensive?

I agree w/ Iceman and Threxx, from other sources the most common category the gs is put in is "luxury sport sedan", as it is a combination luxury car and sports sedan. I guess you could see what the "usual" competition is categorized, that would be the bmw 5 series, m-b e class, and audi a6.
Yeah, the gs isn't all out luxury, or it would have some niceties the ls has, for i.e. power rear sunshade, audio/seat controls on rear armrest, air condiitoned seats, massage seats, swivel headlights, and more.

I don't know about you guys, but I would rather not have any more weight of the above mentioned LS options. That would prob cost a tenth or two at least. I think the GS43 is the perfect balance of performance and lux.
