your friend said it's harder to break into a Mercedes than a Lexus? Tell him to think again. Maybe he thinks the MB code keys will help? Some crook will plug in his handy code scanner which scans millions of codes per minute, and it makes the thief's job easier by just playing around with his little machine rather than having to destroy the locks or the alarm system.

If he thinks his Mercedes is any better protected, wait until he gets his car, goes to another shop to do the alarms, and goes jogging again...........

Don't forget the wheels insurance this time

just my pair of pennies....

I believe it was last year, Don Johnson's 2000 S500 was stolen in 5 minutes just outside of Las Vegas. they caught the guy after he wrecked it, but it just shows you how easy it is for people to steal your car. It doesn't matter if MB, BMW, or Lexus.

As add-ons and mods are made and communicated to the insurance company/agent, expect the premium to go up.

My understanding was that, there is a wait period of 20+ days before the insurance companies pay-up. The number of days is based on the average time of recovery of lost/stolen vehicles.

Any idea how good the engine immobilizer is?

Assuming the theft plan was hatched after the alarm was installed, some one must have tailed your friend.

Hope the crooks are found. Not to sure to wish the car is found, unless it was taken care of by the crooks.

Default No hope

The cops said if they don't find your car by the same day it was stolen, the probability of them finding his car after that is almost at 0%. The funny thing is, my neighborhood has the highest car theft incidents in all of NYC ! My neighborhood is considered a good area!

I recall there was another incident that I read in my neighborhood's own newspaper where a guy woke up to find his 2000 Jaguar S-Type on top of 4 stools with his rims stolen !, and this was in his OWN BACKYARD !

I found a 1990 Toyota Corolla for $1500. I think I am going to purchase that car and pay like $500 in insurance (only liability of course) a year. This crap is getting out of hand and I don't want to become another statistic.

Well, the thing that deterred him from the GS to the E430 is because of the keyless entry system. He felt that the E430 is more "high tech" when it comes to anti-theft devices. Also there are more commercials that I have seen where MB just advertises how good their anti-theft system is.

I agree with everyone here , that if a guy wants to take your car they will definately take it with no problems. Many cops here promote that thing called "Autolock". Where it is a piece of metal that secures the brake pedal so you can't push down and put the car in drive. They felt that the AUTOLOCK is the best safety for any persons car (unless the theifs tow the car). Anyone ever seen this device in TV ad's? I've seen it alot but not too sure if its living up to all the hype.

Hey man, you shouldn't have to buy some POS 'er to drive cause your afraid of someone jacking your car. Personally, I would never put my GS on stanby and drive some POS car. Going to the mall, movies etc and showing off your car/ upstaging the ricers is part of the fun of owning a GS. I recommend getting your alarm installed by a reputable place. The VIPER is a great alarm system, only someone on the inside could have gotten around it.

Peace for now.
