Default Need help repairing Body Kit, Poly.

Well, I'm going to install my kit and suspension. I have a 2 small problems that I need help with. First is a crack on the end of a side skirt. It's already painted, so I don't want to go out a repair then repaint it. I was wondering if there is a way I can bondle the back of the side skirt so that it won't crack more.

The second is the existing double sided tape that already exists on the kit. It's pretty hard to get off. First I used a razor, but they left a bunch of sticky stuff back. Then I used my thumb, and now my skin on my thumb is all weird.

So would it be safe just to just put new double sided tape over the exisitng one?

Thanks

Audio28, I just had my 3pc spoiler removed and the body shop used about 3 cans of this adhesive remover to soften the 3M tape/glue. It was a very slow process since the wing was on my car for over 2 years but after several hours of slowly pulling up the wing, it came off without scratching or chipping the paint. They sell this stuff at Home Depot and other hardware stores. Do not apply new 3M tape over the old one. Do it right!!!

As for your crack in the bumper, I would contact CL member "92 sc three". He bought my used L-Sportline bumper which had a few major cracks which his bodyshop did a wonderful job repairing. He is also in CA.. Good luck bro...

Thanks, I know, I do want to do it right. I was just wondering if it was ok. But does anyone have any idea how I can quick fix the side skirt. I'll post pics when I get home.

audio: To remove your old 3m tape is simply easy and it only takes seconds to remove all. Go to a hardware store that sells car paint and get a Adhesive tape eraser. This thing works like magic, takes out every bit of the old tape leaving not scratches or chips in your paint in seconds. Any body shop has this eraser thing i'm talking about.

You can take some ABS plastic and glue it on from behind the crack.

The plastic is the same black pebble grain stuff used for custom car stereo installs. Usually comes in 1/8 inch thicknesses and can easily be formed with a heat gun.

A temporary fix might be to glue the ABS in using Permatex BLACK RTV silicone.

The permanent way would be to glue it with a 2 part urethane bumper glue. (Assuming the body kit is not made of fiberglass) Available at body shop supply stores. Costly though, but the bond is very strong.
