Default Removing rear window tint

Has anyone removed aftermarket tint from their rear window? I've read up on various methods, but I wanted to know if anyone had first-hand experience. Thanks.

my advise is to let a professional do this. you don't want to mess around with pulling off the defroster lines.

i hear they use amonia and let it sit in the sun to loosen the adhesive.

Check Autozone. They have a product called Window Film Adhesive Remover. It works good. You spray and peel. Don't use the scrapper on the defroster lines though.

Dont let them use the heat gun too much also.... excessive use of the heat gun directly on the defroster lines will damage ***

but yea.. just spray some of that stuff.... let it sit then just peel off.... dont scrape!

Hey thanks guys. That's really helpful. I'll pick up some when I return my antenna.

No problem. That was my first post. I'm a newbie to this forum and just got my 2001 lexus gs300. I plan on posting more. Good luck.

Good first post. I've been on here for about 6 months. It's a great forum and a great group of guys/girls. There's no such thing as a stupid question around here, so if you need anything, feel free to post or send me a pm. Thanks again.

The process is not hard, just time consuming. What I did (advice from a friend who used to tint windows) was take a razor blade, and try and get the film in the corner, and try to pull as much of the physical film off as you can. After that, get a spray bottle with a mixture of dishwashing liquid (like dawn) and water. Mist the mixture directly on the window, the wetter the better. Use the blade to scrape UP AND DOWN in between the defroster lines, getting as close to them as your comfortable with. Going up and down makes it a lot easier to get really close to the lines. After you've done this, wipe the excess. Get some steel wool, spray the miixture again (work in small sections with the wool) and scrub. You can go over the defroster lines with the wool without damaging them (make sure it's not really coarse wool though).
After i finished this process, i took it to the tint shop the next day and the guy (who's been in the business for 20 years) was amazed at how clean I got it.

Thanks a lot. I've heard that either dishwashing soap (like you mentioned) or ammonia work best. I may give it a shot this weekend. Thanks again.
