There was no way in hell that I was going to wait for 5000 miles before changing the oil in my new Lexus. My hubby and I changed the oil ourselves at 1500 miles, and will from now on change oil every +-3500 miles. We'll do the one, then take it to Lexus for the next, and alternate it that way. Their recommendation for my driving conditions was an oil change every 7500 miles, so that works out just fine. We changed to Mobil 1, and used the Mobil 1 oil filter.

my .02:
taking your lexus to the most reputable place (such as the dealer) may help you in the long run. A company (such as Lexus) would be more likely to help you when you have problems after the warranty has 'expired'. It's a form of goodwill.
Never use a Fram in a Lexus (for a few bucks you can get the OEM part)! Toyota wouldn't take the cheap route on an oil filter or any other part for that matter. They have their quality reputation at stake! You have to ask yourself, what make a Lexus so great, it's because everything is put together with the tighest of specifications.
Just my opinion......

I use Royal Purple synthetic oil with Toyota oil filter. Don't use Fram filter. If you want to save a few bucks on oil filters, get one for Toyota Avalon.

Royal Purple
MG - Man, U must be rich!! I LOVE Royal Purple oil - seen some great lubrication tests done by SAE & API & it's better than Mobil 1. However, the best price I can find is around $32/5 gallon can & that's at my cost as an oil company engineer!! Where & for how much do ya get yours?

Here in Vancouver, the RP oil cost around $7 CAD (or $5 USD). Same price for Mobil 1, Castro syntec, or Penzoil synthetic.
As for the oil filter, the Lexus dealer charges $15 CAD. However, if I buy from the Toyota dealer (filter for Avalon), it would be $10 CAD a piece. Saves me 5 bucks for gas.
So you see, I don't have to be rich to get the good stuff

Pricing
MG - Yep, given the choice between M1 & RP ( at the same cost ), I'd take the RP but since I can get M1 at $3.79/quart at Wal Mart & RP's a mail order thing, guess I'll stick with M1.
