ball joint
#16
well heres todays update
what sould have taken 30 mins took me all morning until 1p just to remove drivers side tie rod.. (as everyone knows i do all my own work in my garage with a comm grade air compressor) i used my air hammer with pickle for attach , did not work, i used a reg pickle fork with a 4lbd mini sledge , i used half of can of liquisd wrench to saok the joint , i even tried using my adjustable gear puller with diff size end hooks , would not break free. well after pounding and praying and pounding fianlly it broke loos and i changed it.. i was able to adjust the toe back to exactly where it was before.. after putting back the car , went for a drive .. man what a diff outer tie rods can make .. very very smooth , no steering kick back , no shimmy all the way up to 80.. and just imaginrei did not do pass side as yet , i have the pass one in my garage , but i am too tired to fight with that one today.. i am going to wait and find a pit arm puller that fits over the head of this tie rod and use the correct tool to pop it off..
i checked the ball joint throughly, no play in it whatsoever. no left to right no up and down and i used my prybar to look for any slight movement so i am not going to change them now and since i will buy the right tool for future use for the tie rod i will not have to worry down the road about damaging the tie rod to do the balljoint
so if you got excessive play in steering or a occasional flutter while braking at low speeds checkout your outer tie rods , they could be really loose
