John, thanks for posting the pix ,
Unfortunately, I ebayed my digi cam (size does matter here) so I didn't take any pix that day for a DYI. The process was identical to the IS. I had don't tons of IS's tail light so no challenges here. Here is the IS tail light painting DYI, Link. No scoring needed though, just dremel all the way through. Make sure u use a diamond blade and tape the lens well to avoid any unnecessary scratches.
Spend you time and clean out all the residue from the dremeling process and spray out all the find dust, wash the outter lens with mild soap and water before putting them back together.
Use GE black silicone 2 to bond the lens together and then reinforced with Permatex black rvt silicone (this is a much stronger bond, will help prevent leak in the long run).
Use a solf sponge and dip it in soapy water and run it down on the silicone to smoothen it out.
After it all dry up, clean the excess with 3M aheasive cleaner or similar for a clean look.
*Warning, don't use Permatex black RVT sillicone to bond the len to the housing (what I meant is the gaps between the lens and the housing), only use it on the outside after you filled the gaps with GE silicone 2). Fail to do so will results in lens cracking.
