Guys make sure you talk to whomever does this about the high touch area it goes in, as well as the plastic underneath. Others that have looked into doing this in the past have been told that chroming the OEM 98 - 00 piece will likely either wrinkle or come off. Hopefully there is an alternative process that will do a better (more durable and flexibile) job.

that's very good point dave. the 01+ piece i got, it's very solid and stiff, you can't really deform it much without breaking it.

however, the 98 piece i got it's a lot softer and you can flex it quite a bit. that means the chrome might chip off very easy

Yo I'm here. Just can't get online that much anymore.

I had several items dark chromed. I hesitate to call them black chrome cause it's close to the dark chrome offered on the chrome shifter bezel / ring.

SURPRISE ! How many of you didn't know the shifter bezel was dark chrome?

Look at an 04 IS300, the headlights are dark chrome, where as the sport design are what you could call black chrome. I would also say the black pearl emblems are even more black than chrome.

Unless you put the bezel next to real chrome, you can't tell that easy.

Back to the point. I had the headlight housings, rear trunk bar, rear emblem and liscense frame dark chromed. If I take a picture, they will almost still look like chrome because the reflection "fools" you into thinking it's plain chrome.

If the wheather clears up, I might be able to take a "after" photo of my changes. I already took the "before" shots.

Back on topic. The chroming of the shifter bezel has been beaten to death for over a year now. Bottom line , in my opinion, chroming the old shifter bezel is not as easy as it looks . Mainly because the real chrome bezel is designed different and I think it is stiffer material. The old bezel is more flexible and will probably crack the chrome when you attempt to install it. There are a couple of ways to modify the bezel so it doesn't have to flex as much, but I don't believe anyone has been succesful at chroming the old black bezel. Cost is another thing. SIK Industries said they could try to do it for like $60, but I wasn't willing to take a chance with it cracking.

Let me also say there have been several who have claimed they know of shops that could do it and could do it for less. Man, anyone can look up a chrome shop in the yellow pages too, but WHO HAS ACTUALLY TRIED IT??

I'll be more than happy to hear when someone has successfully done this and at a reasonable price, but so far all I have heard are people blowing a lot of smoke.

Edit: Wow, Dave, Me and Henry all responded within minutes of each other saying basically the same thing. What can I say. GREAT MINDS . . .
