Hi everyone,
I am an avid visitor to this forum since I got my 2000 GS400 almost a year ago. Being a typical girl, I’m not very knowledgeable about cars, but I think something definitely wrong and I don’t know what to do, please help!
Yesterday she stalled the second time since I got her. Both times were at the first stoplight after I exited highways (normal driving 60-65 mph). The car shuddered then all the lights on dash lit up like a Christmas tree and the car died out. However, all I have to do is restart the car and all the lights would go away. The first time this happened I reported it to dealer, and the service guy told me that it’s difficult to tell what when wrong since none of the warning lights stayed on but he ran a diagnostic anyway and as he suspected he couldn’t find anything wrong.
I remember reading about someone having stalling problems and about the low rpm about a week or so ago, and since then I’ve been keeping an eye on my rpm. Most of the time my idle is around the third mark (500 rpm?) but sometimes the idle would be at or below the second mark (300 rpm?) and that’s where my car’s idle was yesterday before and after the stall.
I believe someone mentioned resetting the ecu, would that help? Any information and advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

a friend of mine had almost the same problem with his gs4, the car would stall and die without any warning. in his case though, no lights on the dash came on. i went with him to the dealership when he took it in. it was still under warranty. the service man told him they coudln't find anything wrong with the car but he suspected that the ECU would be the problem. my friend refused to pick up his car until they replaced the ECU. no problem with the car since then. that was about two months ago. i'm not sure if that's the problem with your car, but it's something for your dealer to look at.

I don't think you'd want to mess with ECU or anything like that. It's still under warranty so why not bring it to the dealer. Let the professional handle it. :-))

My car stalled twice in a week at same place (McDonald's driver through). I brought to the dealer and they did a diagnosis told me there is nothing wrong. So far my car is fine. What I heard from a friend of mine is that he had same situation with his new maxima. Car died at stop light twice and low rpm during idle. He brought to the dealer, and dealer did a diagnosis (which automatic reseting his ECU) and told him there is nothing wrong. So after resetting his ECU, his car is back to normal rpm and didn't die again. Did your car die after or before you bring it to the dealer?

I agree with sc400. Take advantage of your warranty and let the dealer figure it out. Mine died about 18 months ago and exhibited the "no gauges" effect. They had to replace the main computer. Since then no problems.

The first time she stalled was after the 1000 mile service, and I only have about 7000 miles right now. I just made an appointment with the dealer for this wednesday, hopefully they can do something for fix this problem. Thanks for the suggestions!
