That's a good question TLW...

I'm not sure of what critics thought, but I for sure thought the car looked awesome. I can still vividly remember seeing the first pics of the '98 GS in cinnabar red with 17 inch chrome wheels, spoiler and sporting its aggresive stance on a curvy mountain road.

I don't get this kind of feeling with the new GS.

That "L" is really big!!!!

Speaking of classic design, I think the 2nd Gen Acura Legend Coupe (G2) ranks up there with the GS2.

I'll take mine in blue with grey interior & blackwood.... I am all over this car.

Nothing a set of coilovers & 21x9 255/30-21 + 21x10.5 295/25-21s wouldn't fix!!!!

Sorry guys, it doesn't do much of anything for me... it's unlikely to ever be in my garage.

That's why I'm giving the new one a chance for me to actually see one in person...modded. The first time I saw a 98 gs I liked the front end but thought the rest of the car was too bulbous. Still think it's bulbous but modded it's really cool. It also has nice lins and flows well. Tapers off in the rear to finish off the look. This new one is not flowing as well....and there is nothing innovative about it's design. However, it may grow on me.

I suspect those big headrest things are likely do to active headrests. The move in the case of a rear end collision to support the neck. That's my guess..

Don't like the two small square cover thingy at the rear of the bumper. What are those for? Are those for towing?

More I look at it more I like it. Probably will get the new GS after the first year. Want Lexus to work out the bugs usually found on the first year model.

Does anyone know if it will have the signature yellow fog lights??? They look so good and actually work very well.

To not look so huge? The current GS has a way of looking compact even though it's still a fairly big car. This new one just looks very big to me. If I want a large comfy car, I'll get an LS430 or something like that. If I want a sports sedan, I guess my choices are limited because there's nothing that I see that's actually sporty and still good looking except maybe the E55, but even that design is going to look dated shortly.

I think part of the problem is that all of our expectations were very high, and the new style, although very nice, doesn't seem to be anything special. That's what made the 2nd generation GS a real head-turner in 1997 when it was introduced -- there was nothing else out there on the road quite like it. The new GS seems a little bland/indifferent to me. It's not sharp or edgy and doesn't seem to have any attitude. The shape looks a little big -- not clumsy, just big and indifferent, with no one single identifying feature that sets it apart from everything else. I'm sure the inside will be first class and top notch in terms of quality, but it just doesn't jump out and say "hey, look at me." You know what I mean?
