Default Help: Driver-side HID not working

Ever since installing a pair of aftermarket 8000K D2R HID bulbs on my 1999 GS3 i've had problems with my HID system. First, after having them installed by my mechanic the HID self-levelling warning light on the dash went off. I ignored this for a while until the driver side HID stopped working. I thought it was the HID bulb but im not sure anymore. I got it replaced under warranty and had my mechanic install them this evening but it still wasn't working? We thought it might be a fuse but that wasn't the case. Anyone have a similar problem with their HID system not working? Lexus said i need to replace the "computer" for the driver-side? How much you ask? CAD$593!!!!!Feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

i have this issue previously, but i have aftermarket hid for non hid housing.
did you just replaced both bulbs and ballast or just the bulbs alone ? the old ballast might not be apropriate for the new bulbs, as i was told by the seller for the kit. also, it might be the ballast so plugin a working bulb on that ballast and see.

i wonder if he damamged some part of the system during the install. i know some 8500k hid bulbs, they require new ballasts coz' they suck more current. it could be the case that you blew one ballast already

and for teh computer, yes it's never cheap. i don't see how it can be damaged by changing bulb though, but then if the autoleveling doesn't work anymore that's probably why

I guess if the driver side HID is not coming on and the passenger one is, you could probably swap ballasts and see if it does come on for testing.

Default HID

I got these 8000K bulbs from www.HIDKING.com ...ill check if its the ballasts and if thats not it then im sure its that "computer module" for the driver side HID. Im sure its not the bulb b/c they're brand new. Maybe i should have sticked with brand name HID D2R replacements with a higher K temp. Anyway, i'll keep you guys posted.

the computer has nothing to do with the bulb though. i believe the computer only control the back of the housing up and down. the bulb is just connected to the ballast

Although stranger things have happened, I can't see how the computer affects the ballast powering up the bulbs either. Systematically swap both the bulbs and ballasts like the others suggested to try to narrow down the problem.

Good luck.

why did he refused to test the bulbs ? just swapping the bulbs (left go to right and vise versa) will tell you if the one of the bulb or the ballast is bad, no need to do anything else.

True. It will eliminate the bulbs as the culprit. Swapping the ballasts is a free test that ensures that there is nothing else wrong with the "bad" side before he has to buy another ballast.
