Well, I have the car and it's great. The dealer is good and I had everything checked out. It's as clean as new. When I got there and I looked at the car, I noticed that it had the 16" rims on. I asked the guy what's going on, as the vehicle in the picture had 17s. He told me that the 17's had some bad tires on and that he didn't want me to drive the long trip on them. He told me the the 17" rims were in the trunk. Sure enough the rims were there. I got two sets of wheels, and an incredibly clean Lex. I am the happiest camper. The car has a Mark Levinson radio as well. I love everything about it. Ok, I have to go drive now!

When I was looking for my GS430 I looked at Intorg on EBAY also. He can get some low mileage vehicles and price them very low prices. He prices is at least 4000 below market and 5 to 10,000 below a Certified Lexus GS. I speaking of the prices here in the Mid Atlantic Area. Go to www.cars.com and type in area code 20743 in a 100 miles area. You can get the average cost and mileage in my area. I would say you got a great deal. Intorg had a Black on Black w/ Nav/ML for 33,900. But I couldn't get the loan in time. Besides I didn't know anyone who have purchased a vehicle off EBAY. Enjoy your ride.

Congrats on the purchase Lstyle Thanks for sharing the story.
The dealer was pretty nice giving you that extra set of wheels; consider that about a $300-400 discount
(depending where he bought those rims).
I see people driving in '79 Datsuns and Corollas and not sure why people are worried if our 98+ GS will last to 200k + miles??? Maybe on our original tranny, if that's what concerning us??? I'm sure our Lexus sevice dept. don't like us as much as BMW /MB service dept. bringing them repeated business

Lstyle -- the cars a beaut. I love the look of a nice clean beige car, especially with the 17s and the spoiler. It's a combo you don't see very often (definitely not around Chicago). You got a great car at a great price. I traveled from Chicago to Columbus to pick up my car. There's no thrill quite like it. Congrats.
So, I'm trying to figure out what other GS400 from other years are worth. Lstyle got his car for $28,600. I remember looking at 01 GS430s at the very start of this year, and they were priced around $32,000 or so. I'm thinking our cars are depreciating at about 10% a year, or 10% inbetween model years, and that sounds about right. So, if Lstyle paid $28,600 for his car with about 30,000 miles, then you would expect to pay around $25,000 for a comparably equiped 2000 GS400 with around 42,000 miles (an additional 12,000 miles for the extra year), around $22,000 for a 1999 GS400 with 54,000 miles, and around $19,000 for a 1998 GS400 with 66,000 miles or so. What's interesting is that I bought my 98 GS400 with 54,000 miles on it in March of this year for $20,000. It now has 67,000 miles on it, and I figure it's worth around $19,000. Now I agree that depreciation occurs more in the early years and less in the later years, so this scale should taper off to some extent.
Anyway, I'm just wondering if other cars out there fit into this value scale. Does this sound about right?

No, I did not. I bought mine in Colombus, Ohio. Your guy is in Missouri, right? However, I will definitely take a serious look at buying my next one from him. I think I may upgrade to a 2001 or 2002 430 after 2-3 years of driving my current car. I honestly can't see driving any other car for a long time. Best of luck with the new purchase.
