Yes, the 2006 GS does resemble the Maxima and here is why:
1) 2006 GS closely resembles profile of current generation GS
2) Maxima and Altima copied profile of current generation GS
3) Therefore, 2006 GS resembles Maxima
To those who think Lexus copied Maxima or Altima, give me break and open your eyes. If anything, it was the other way around. As soon as the new Altima redesign came out a few years ago I thought it closely resembled the profile of the GS.

agreed
i definitely agree... the 06 GS really looks similar to the 04 Maxima... i think thats what turned me off of it in the first place.. it just didn't have that WOW of a lexus... when i first saw my GS i was like WHOA... the new GS was like a "thats it?"... if anyone understands what im talking about...
the new GS interior is also an iffy for me... did it improve? maybe in someways... but i think it took that feeling of a GS out of it... it kinda looks like a RX interior forged into something that was to fit into the GS interior... if that makes any sense at all...
i don't know... i can't explain it but the 06 really isnt eye appealing to me... im sure it'll be an awesome car to some people but i think imma stick with my 02 GS 430...

And anyone can find examples of a car that's been modded to look bad.

not to b rude but who cares who copied who the fact is the new maxima and altima have been out for a couple years and lexus had a chance to come out with a new design 1st a long time ago but decided to wait 8 years to redesign the GS!! in this world everyone copies everyone. we will just have to live with it as is for the next 8 years until they decide to change it again...lexus had a chance a couple years ago to really hit the market with a new design but since the 2nd gen was still selling so well they decided to wait, nissan and eveyone else decided to move quickly on a new design and have sold very well. the fact imo is that lexus couldn't come up with a design to outdo themselves with the GS like they did in 97 when they introduced the 2nd gen. so they decided to wait, and every one else moved. to this day no car has blown me away at 1st glance like in 1997 when the 2nd gen GS red 400 on that mountain road with the chrome 17's lowered a little on l-tuned did in that pic .

Just not cuttin it
I'd be the first to admit the new GS is nicer than the Maxima, but that doesn't mean it looks good!
They both look weak. Although, I'll also state that I'm sure there is nothing weak about the way that new GS430 drives either, but it still looks stupid for a Lexus.
