i can't believe u are having the saem problem. i've been having this problem since i bought the car. I also have a 2000 Gs300 Platinum. i took it to the dealer twice to get it fixed. it works for a week and then the rattle starts up again. Let me know if u find any better solutions, cause i'm still getting a rattle noise when going over bumps or pothole on the road.

my dealer was able to squash this one with one try a year ago. i think they put some felty soundproofing in a few places around the switch and frame. i can look again if you want to compare notes.

Mike and others,
I did the glovebox rattle TSBs (technical service bulletins) myself, and got rid of the problem for good!!
Ask your dealers for TSBs #NV020-98 and NV003-00. It involves sticking felt pieces in certain parts of the glovebox. Very easy job ! There are other two TSB's involving the glovebox, regarding the glovebox switch and tightening of the lever arm (Ask the dealer on these ones, I don't have the numbers handy) It is definitely a solvable problem, good luck!!

I had this fixed on one try by my dealer. The guy took apart the glove and removed the light switch pin which is on the right side, he put some lubricant into it and placed it back into the glove and re-assembled the glovebox. Has been quiet since and I lived with the noise for a year too. Hope this helps.

Hi there.
I have this on my 2001 GS300. I actually got tid of this problem by a little 'DIY'.
Stick a little piece of plastic leg (I got one off from the back of a cable modem) and stick it on the right side of the glove. Basically is where the light switch pin touching the actual glove box.. I know it sounds confusing, but if you open the glove box and look at the right side and see where the light switch pin touches the glove box, you can see where it is.
I did it and no one (including myself) notice about that this piece of plastic (so long as its black)

Lexus Carlsbad fixed mine in one shot as well a couple of years back. They seemed to know exactly what to do and put a piece of foam tape in there instead of some cable modem "leg" ... Sounds like a chicken wing you get at a cyber cafe

hahahhahah...
you know what? the glovebox rattle never really bothered me till yesterday when I rode with the stereo off!!! I usually could hear the cointray, the sunroof, and the middle console... but those have recently been fixed.... I think I'll just drive with my stereo at mid-blast from now on....

I had this worked on last week.
It was awesome for about 3 days and the rattles returned. Now I figure like everything else in life:
If you want to do something right, do it yourself. So I am going to do so insulating and some tweaking when I get some time.
