Default to get or not to get 1998 g400

i went to see a 1998 silver g400 today. it had 73,000 miles and the guy wanted $15,900. the only thing it had was the spoiler. here is the thing though that turned me away from the car, it had some stone chips on the hood of the car and the rear spoiler had some deep scratches. also the wheel looked like it had some curb damage. should i get this car or should i continue to look for more. there is this one car i am very interested, here is the link
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...508777688&rd=1

do u think this is a pretty good deal.

i read on this forum that the lexus gs does have an issue with the rock chips on the hood and bumper. what can be done to prevent this and what color of car will it show less on, either white or the silver.

please respond, am going to look at a couple of more cars tomorrow. so wish me luck.

Any car will have rock chips.....and wheel curb should NOT be on you list for things to look at.

Wheels can be brought & sold. You can easily sell those curb wheels for $500.....and spend another $500 for mint condition wheels just like those.

You should be looking at the major items:
Motor
Tranny
Electrical
Frame
Accident?

But the price does sound real good.

ur right, i should have thought about that before. the engine is very clean, he just had the tune up on the transmission, he said that he repainted the front bumper because of a couple of scratches. other than that the car is perfect.

Looks pretty clean. If the major items are fine, that is a good deal.

If you hang out on CL long enough, you may not even have these pieces for long.

depends on whether you will mod the car or not. if you get wheels, you don't get about the curb rash like neo mentioned. if you need new spoiler, you dont' care about that too. if you get new bumper, you get it fixed. the hood you can repaint if you want

the more important is to check on the engine and tranny, those are the stuff that can really break. get the car to a mechanic if possible for a checkup, i think that's safer

oh and from everything, the price looks pretty decent

I've seen these pictures before. It appears another CL member was considering this GS as well. Just worry about the major things. Paint chips and wheels are not that important. I can garantee, that if you remain a member and visit the forum on a regular basis, that you will start replacing these parts.

I see the car is located in Texas, and your in Jersey. My suggestion would be to have a CL member check it out for you (if anyone is willing from Texas) or have the Dealer take it to a Lexus dealer to check out the car. Worth the extra $

You should stick to local sellers or dealers. I mean buying a car from a CL member is one thing(people can vouch for him/her), but Ebay? I don't know. I'd rather see the car in person.
