Default Buying a GS400

Hi, I'm new here and I've been looking for a GS400. I found a 1998 GS400 with 87,500 miles and the dealer wants $19,000 for it. What should I look for when buying a GS400 and any problems with high mileage GS4? Thanks.

i think the price is pretty decent.

that kind of mileage honestly is nothing for lexus. the v8 engine is very strong, and even double the mileage would be ok. the only thing i think you should check is for leaking, and any of the electronic problems. is it from lexus dealership? maybe you can get it CPO for the extended warranty (though not much until 100k)

Henry, in order to be eligible for the CPO program, a Lexus vehicle must be no more than 5 years old and have less than 60,000 mi. Then pass factory standards inspection. Warranty is for 3 years from date of purchase or till 100,000 miles. A 1998 would no longer qualify regardless of mileage.

oh i didn't know about the 60k part, that sux

yeah in that case, i wuld say just get a mechanic to check on the car for any possible leak together with any other possible problems, etc.... that's your best bet

I wouldnt consider 87K miles to be high mileage in my book.

But you are right at the 90K mile service, If memory serves me this was a relatively expensive service and included replacing the timing belt, you may try to get them to throw in the service for you as part of the deal.

$1100 service for timing belt, water pump and all fluids replaced at 90K.

BTW, for $19,000 it better have a navigation and HID I paid that price a year ago for the exact same mileage.

What electronic problems are we talking about. I thought these cars are perfect.

No car is perfect. I'm guessing by electronic problem Henry meant the door actuators that go out on some cars (stops doors from unlocking with remote key).

Other common problems with some GSs you might want to look out for (none really very serious IMO)

Moisture in Healights
Low/rough Idle Issue
Door Actuator Problems
Dash Rattle
Sunroof Rattle
Vibration at Highway Speed

Thanks guys, I'll talk to the dealer tomorrow and have them do the 90k service. I have a set of 19x9 Axis Se7en that I removed from my 3000GT VR-4 with 35mm offset, would these fit a GS? And also I just bought an Eclipse AVN2454 unit with navigation, DVD, and touchscreen, anybody have aftermarket screen and navigation on their GS? Thanks.

If you are talking about Dave's car and you like it, did you vote for it yet?

i don't know about the bolt pattern, but the size is probably ok. very aggressive for the front though, you might rub in the front
