Default Yikes! No throttle response! (UPDATED)

Well, it looks like after 16 months and 17,000 miles of ownership I need to take my Lex to the Service department! She's sitting at around 99,700 miles right now too. How convenient, she needs the 90k service.

Intermittently I've seen my CEL come on recently and with it, the VSC light, and VSC-OFF indicator.

I remembered seeing a recent thread about how the computer will sometimes disable the VSC on it's own, depending upon what the CEL light is indicating is malfunctioning.

Since it was intermittent, i was not too worried, that is, ...until yesterday! I was in moderate-heavy traffic around a mall area and all of a sudden, I pushed on the gas and NOTHING HAPPENED! I tried again and again. Still nothing. I looked at the RPM's and they were around 1000. Very weird. I wondered if my throttle cable or something had broken.

I idled into a parking lot, popped the hood and realized that the darn engine cover blocks everything I wanted to see.
I went inside to eat with a friend and when we came out, I fired her up and she was responsive again, but that darn CEL light and VSC error light are on again. (along with VSC-off)

Now I'm kinda scared to drive it. I don't want that "no throttle" thing happening again! I wonder if my TPS is going out or what?

She'll see the shop this week if there is an opening.

Anyone have any thoughts?

PS. Picked up a new Optima battery a few days ago too! Woohooo! (haven't installed it yet though)

I thought I saw something about "safe mode" where you have to almost floor it to move? Maybe that's what it's doing because of some kind of sensor error.

How weird that you would mention that!!! I purposely left out that INDEED, just before I shut it off, and it was sitting in Park I "floored" it to show my friend the non-responsive pedal and JUST LIKE YOU SAID,....at about 80% throttle it did give some revs finally!!

I told my younger friend that it reminded me of an old "limp mode" setting that some cars used to have but I wasn't sure if they still did that! What the heck is going on!!

My computer is storing these errors for the Lexus Technician isn't it???? I sure hope so!

Yeah, that Snow mode pretty much sucks doesn't it? I'm not in snow mode, that was the first thing I checked however!

Guess I'll do some pricing on the TPS and see if my local shop will at least check out the codes for me.

Went to the Lex dealer today.

They took me in because it was pretty dead there.

They hooked up the scanner and said "yup, it's the TPS". Code: P1120

They wanted $215 for the sensor and $115 to install it. After tax it's like $350! I'm thinking, that's just a bolt on item isn't it???? I could probably install it my darn self, I'm plenty mechanically inclined.

So, I thank him for the scan, ask how much for just the scan. He says,...uhhh $40.

So I pay my $40 and say that I will talk to my friends about replacing it (pssst. that's you guys) and if doable, I may be back to purchase the TPS from them.

So, I immediately drive off to the Toyota dealer which is conveniently on the way home. The young'un behind the counter says he can't look it up without a part number. DARN.
Anyone know the part number??

I pop by PepBoys which is also on the way home and they can not get one. They have Bosch Oxygen sensors, but no TPS.

What do you guys think of those prices?? $215 seemed like a little much for a TPS even if it is a Lexus.

EDIT: Autozone has a TPS made by Wells for $200. If I don't get a part# to Toyota, I may be getting that TPS from Lexus after-all!

Thanks!
