I bought a set of HID headlight assemblies including ballast.

Does anyone know what is involved, special wiring, etc?

I did the conversion to my car. .Email me and I will guide you through it. The only thing I did not connect, was the autoleveling. I have been driving with the lights adjusted to spec for a few months now, and with the work involved to get them to move up and down, I do not think it is necessary. I don't think it blinds other drivers either.
