I've got one in mine. There are only two things to really do.

1) locate the switch (likely under your dash) to turn it off and on / different settings for city/highway, volume

2) Figure out which of the lights in your gauge cluster (mine pictured below) is for the front detector and which is for the rear so you know which way the cops are coming from.

Edit - oh, and my stereo install guy suggested that I let him swap out the K40 LEDs for some less obtrusive little blue ones (pictured below).

BTW, I've done concurrent / back to back testing with the K40 (that came in mine) and my Valentine One radar detector. As a result, the K40 stays turned off in my car (V1 is much better), BUT if you don't have another detector it's great for a freebie and the stealth aspect of it is very cool.

i also have a escort 8500 x50 but just the fact that it has the k40 is pretty cool, how hard is it to hardwire the escort.

No, but most dealers have it as an option you can have them add there.

BTW Joe, it is against forum policy to allow two IDs. I can change the name of your old one so you keep your post history and inactive this one, OR you can inactivate the old one. You need to PM me with what you want to do please.

Yeah, it came with my car. I bought it as a 1 year old CPO and I noticed as soon as I started it for the test drive (made that little brrrup beep startup sound). I asked the salesman what the sound was and he had no clue what it was... so I poked around and figured it out before I bought it.

It's a nice to have but I never use it.

that's interesting, no wonder coz' i read you doing all the hardwire for v1 and stuff, why would you go all the way to k40 afterwards.

so you said the v1 is better, you mean substantially? and the k40 is just weaker in all frequency?

i think it's funny coz' i thought the k40 is a lot more expensive

it is, but only because of the stealth and installation aspects of it. k40 is weaker all around. You do get front/rear direction, but much later warnings, even more falses.

The beeping means there is a bad connection. Check the connection where the wire meets the sensor (check both the front and rear sensor). I used some electrical tape to ensure that it doesn't come loose again..

Rottweiler, looks like they did a good job installing it. I like the location of the LED's. FYI, K40 allows you to update your sensors for a fairly inexpenive price and you can add on laser scramblers.

Here is where I had the LED's installed in my car...I didn't want to see them unless they were flashing.
